I look for muddy water and a nice flat spot to put my chair and cooler.  And for a nice spot to start my fire  ;D.  I've caught bullhead in just about every type of water but muddy is deffinetly the best since they are bottom feeders.  I fish from a lot of boat launches in NY and have success.

On rivers, any calm backwater is good. I like ponds where a small stream or creek enters  and is running muddy after a thunderstorm/rain. It is always a good spot.

on the red river here, i look for 10-15 feet of water...incidental catches deeper, but not near as plentiful.  if anyone hasn't tried this fish, you're missing out on a tasty little fish....grump

Not really a river, but the local lake outlet provides the best bullhead fishing in the county. They haven't started yet, but should be moving in any day now, and I will be there.
They're not my favorite species to target, but they are tasty...

Dont overlook smaller streams and cricks alot of times the towns dredge out near bridges to keep debris out of the culverts and it makes a nice pool for the bulls to hang out in and the acess is easy right from the road and if your lucky there will be a gaurdrail rod holder.PERCHPULLER
