Fished 3am until 3pm yesterday.  Caught many fish.  Two were memorable:

Wild both in nature and how it fought:

Then mid-afternoon I broke off on a rather large brown fishing 6x, so I switched to 5x and landed this a few minutes later, Not wild but large!

There was also a hot clam bite:

*I had thought throwing giant mice flies in the dark was more of a novelty....I was wrong.  Buddy I fished with landed a brown over 20" last night.

Nice job.  I particularly like the "clam bite."

I've caught mussels on bait, but never on a fly.  Nice going.

That was my buddy.  He's an expert clam catcher!

Thanks guys.  Turns out the new rod was worth the money spent!

New adventures in long rodding.  Mousing.  It works and I had a photo worthy participant on last night...that was lost after a brief battle.  Boy do they try to kill these things.  0/3 on hookups last night after a couple of hours.

Interesting.  I have heard of mousing, but never seen it in action.

On a fly (?)/lure (?) (neither term sounds quite right) that big, I imagine whatever fish that would try to hit it would have to be huge.

The first trout I hooked last night stopped my 5w dead in its tracks.  Smaller trout will hit at them depending on the size.  The ones I am after are in the 18-20" class.

Prob that same SOB thats broken my line twice now.  If the water is warmer the stockers will hit mice in the middle of the day.

On the mouse bite, my mother’s cousin lives in northern Idaho, and I’ve just found out he’s quite the fisherman. Talking to him the other week he told me about his experience “mousing” where he lives and in AK where lived years ago. Between this thread, and his comments I think I’m going to have to give it a try.

He did also mention that under the right conditions he has a mouse pattern and technique he said is killer during mid day. He said he saw one get mowed down by a trout, copied the color and movement and he stumbled upon a repeatable pattern.

In between I use big sculpin patterns that dont sink much past the surface film.  They get smoked.  Ill be out for a bit tonight!

No Problem!  He might not even be of legal drinking age and I've learned a ton from him.
