So i bought a nice little 12 ft v hull today. Deep and wide which is good and stable. Was wondering how people have made custom rod holder's and also what swivel seats they put into their rigs. Just want to make it a little more comfortable and versatile. Any tips/ ideas would be greatly appreciated :)

My 12 ftr is the style with the 3 bench seats... I added a pair of those swivel bases that clamp on the bench seat, and a couple of folding back chairs. I have a 5hp Honda and a trolling motor mounted on the transom, and I made a casting deck that sits between the first and second benches to stand and cast for bass fishing. Only other thing I added was a terminal block so that my battery is up front to balance weight, and I run one power main to the back where the block is. From that I split off for the fish finder, trolling motor and lights My fish finder and a handheld GPS mount to "RAM" balls screwed into the gunwale.

I will post pictures later tonoght. Going to get removable swivel seats and I'll be in the market for a trolling motor because my little pond can't have motors in it. I have some ocean rod holder's that you shove in the sand that I might mount to the boat with some metal plumbing stuff my dad said I could use

Start with the 2swivel seats and a trolling motor. That is going to make the boat much more enjoyable to fish out of. I swear I caught more big fish out of a 12 foot tinny than I ever have out of my bigger boat!
By the way the seats and trolling motor can typically be had at Wally World for good prices.

Check craigslist for the trolling motor, i got a decent 30 lb thrust for my 14 foot kayak for like 40 bucks...still need a battery though.

For rod holders, on a boat like yours, I like the Down East rod holders. They can be moved around to fit the best position on each boat you will have. ;) They have several different holders & mounting options. You can adjust the angle of the rod to the water with each one. My favorite is the Saltwater clamp on S-10's. Check the gunnel configuration of your boat, to make sure they will slide over the top. You will probably want to put a short piece of strapping or thin hard wood between the thumb screw clamps And side of your boat. Check the wing nuts often as motor vibration can loosen them up. Keep them lubricated and they will last you forever. PM me for inside dimensions of the S-10's or other questions if you want?

Some places require everyone to wear them until May 1st and it's not bad practice anyway. With the water temps as cold as they are this time of year, a PFD is your friend ;) Good luck out there.

Fish and Game won't let you go out without PFD's either..... Must have one of proper size and class for anyone aboard.

RID SOME PLYWOOD FOR A FLOOR THAT WILL FIT BETWEEN THE SEATS AND THE SLOTS ON THE SIDES
WITH A PIECE OF 2 BY 4 NAILED UNDERNEATH FOR SUPPORT.MUCH EASIER TO STAND ON.

Just bought two seats and swivel attachments at walmart. Also some life jackets. Just gonna make my own rod holder's and try to save a couple bucks for something else like a new Minn kota

My first boat was a 12' rowboat with a 1953 Evinrude 3.5 hp motor. That boat went everywhere from ponds the size of a bath tub to the Atlantic ocean (not suggesting this btw ). Good luck and be safe with your new ride.

I have 1960's evinrude 3hp twin cyl that I was looking to get tuned up and cleaned up. i found it in a barn, cleaned the carb and put new gas in it and it fired up.. also put new sparkplugs in for the hell of it. it runs good suprising but takes a while to start and I think It might be misfiring on one of the cylinders because its way under powered, but sometimes the power increases. does a marine mechanic need to tune it up and look through it or could a motorcycle mechanic take care of it? jw cuz a family friend owns his own motorcycle shop in nashua

question is really 2 stroke vs 4 stroke mechanic. If this person works on 2 stroke motorcycles they might. If not, Granite state boat works in Milford will treat you right.

A piston is a piston, a cam is a cam. If someone has the skills to work on a motor it shouldn't matter what it came from... I've worked on anything in my shop from a twin turbo V12 AMG Benz to a good customers log splitter. If your family friend can fix a dirt bike he can fix an outboard... In my opinion your biggest concern will be finding parts for an outboard from the sixties.

Two points to ponder with old Evinrudes....points or power packs, to suffer power loss and fluctuating power this is usually the culprit. Compression check each cylinder..meaning worn rings if there exists a great differential between the three etc......Fay's Boat Yard in Gilford will have all your vintage parts. Good luck. :)

Build a casting deck/storage bin at the bow of the boat. It will give you a platform to fish off of and a compartment to store gear and provide ballast for assist with plane off. Add the swivel camp on seats, downeast rod holders, fishfinder, & lights. Do you or can you keep a deep cycle battery in the boat charging from the outboard operation? If not it maybe an obstickle for using a trolling motor, lights and fishfinder. Depending on your knowledge of boat operations, you may want to consider an boating safety course. Good Luck.

As mentioned above, a boater safety coarse is a good idea... you don't need it for that little 3 hp setup but if you every want to operate anything over 25 hp (or the dreaded "skicraft") it's required in NH. At the very least you should print out or memorize the inland buoy and marker chart.... not knowing them may leave you sitting on a sand bar or boulder when you don't want to be, or somewhere you are not allowed to be.
