I made my annual pilgrimage up to the Salmon River last week. We arrived Friday evening and stayed until the following Tuesday. We rented a great airbnb that was a 5 minute drive to the upper sections of the river. The fresh snow and bump in flows made things a little bit of a struggle but we had a great time nonetheless. One friend of mine landed a small steelhead within the first 30 minutes which I promptly botched the net job on (with no net just trying to grab it by the tail in a log jam) but he got redemption shortly after that with a chunky dark fish. After that we rode the struggle bus for a while. Sunday provided another 20" of snow if not more so we decided to watch the Pats-Jets that afternoon. Wet wading would have been more enjoyable than that game. Finally late in the day Monday I brought some steel to hand. It was just shy of 30", a poor measurement job in the net had it around 28" but she didn't fight all that hard until we brought the net out. It was the icing on the cake and a nice reward for all the hard work we had put in.

Thanks guys. Felt like winter up there but don’t think we will have ice locally for another month.

Sounds like a great trip. Steelhead fishing is always a challenge, but the reward keeps you going back. Nice fish.
