State law prohibits the Fish and Game department from telling the public when and where they will stock, but they can tell us how much they plan on stocking.  I will get the 2004 numbers up as soon as I have them compiled.

You can always find out complete details at the close of each season by looking at the full stocking report for the prior year to give you an idea of what goes where.  This should aid in your search for new water and trophy fish!

2003 vs. 2004 NH Statewide Stocking Projections

Species   Age   2003   2004   % Change
BT  1+YR  138,698  130,800  -5.7%
EBT  1+YR  453,401  451,800  -0.4%
EBT  2+YR  16,879  15,565  -7.8%
EBT  3+YR  1,387  1,610  +16.1%
RT  1+YR  314,950  273,800  -13.1%
TT  1+YR  8,119  2,000  -75.4%

These figures reflect the percent change in numbers of fish to be stocked from the 2003 season versus this upcoming/current 2004 fishing season in NH.

This is based upon the information that NH Fish & Game has released to the public thus far.  The state hatcheries suffered some serious setbacks in the last year with a significant loss of fish due to algal blooms, pump failures, and staffing issues.

Rumored projections were that the stocking would be down approximately 30% this season.  Looks like they aren't going to do too badly after all.  If you crunch the numbers, they are actually down 27%.  However, several hatcheries retired more than the usual amount of brood stock this year to help offset the loss of fish.  The increase of 16.1% offsets the overall loss to about an 11% decrease in stocking this year.

I don't include the tiger trout numbers in this calculation because they are only stocked in two ponds within the entire state.  Therefore, the decrease in stocking could simply be reflective of population management of this species in these two ponds.

Retired brood stock are three year old or older fish that weigh 4 lbs and up!!  You can see that those fish are actually up 16% for this year which should make for some fun fishing if you can locate them!!

You should also keep in mind that this reflects stocked fish only.  It doesn't necessarily mean that the quality of fishing will be down this year.  You also have to take into consideration the possibility of hold-over and wild fish in our fisheries!

Hey gang!  Good news in the Granite state for those in search of stocked fish.  Governor Benson will be signing into law tomorrow Senate Bill 340. This new law gives Fish and Game the authority to release the names of locations that were stocked with fish the previous week.  This list will be available on Thursday of each week on the department's web site.

I will post links to it in the first post on this thread.
