Looking at a lund w/a 60. Any oppinions as to weather it would slow down to 1 or 2 mph? Or should I keep my kicker? Thanks mike.

I don't have a 4 stroke, but a few guys I know that do in that HP range say they can idle right down to 1.5 - 2 mph with no problem.  8)

i had a merc 50 and i used to troll with it and that was a 2 stroke ..but if you get any tail wind maintaining a trollable speed was near impossible ..thats where a drift anchor comes in ..i used to troll while dragging 5 gallon bucket..but another factor to consider is hull material my boat was a double composite hull which is alot heavier than an aluminum hull so that may have helped in my case ..but either way you can troll with a 60 if you get a drift sock or improvise with a couple buckets ....

Personally I would keep the kicker.  Its nice to have a backup motor in case of a breakdown.  Also saves a lot of wear and tear on your expensive main motor.  Also saves on gas.  3 good reasons to keep it.

I have a buddy that has a 150 honda 4 stroke that he can get down to 1.8mph without socks or anything, As far as the kicker, I agree I would keep it, It's nice to know that if your big motor screws up, at least you have the kicker to get you in? Take Care God Bless LOL Dave

I'd keep the kicker, the less hours on your big motor the better.

i was looking to upgrade my motor to a mercury 75 four stroke, but the thing was gigantic.......the boat would of looked like a clown car........however, i also looked at the  yamaha 60 4 stroke and it was pretty slick.......however, for the price i am better off to personally sell my bass tracker and buy a new one with all the bells and whistles.......sounds like a great idea to me........

keep the kicker , save the wear and tear , I can troll down with mine , but only use my bigger motor to run from spot to spot , then it is all with the little guy ,just my .02

I have a 50 Merc, and I can get down to 1.5 against the wind and 2.0 running with the wind. And at that speed gas is not a problem since you can run all day on 6 gallons.

Don't get rid of it, you'll still want it for bait.  Plus, they are builtproof and hold their value.  I'm very impressed so far with my 90 Yama, my first 4stroke.  It will troll to 1.6-1.8 and uses zip for gas. 8)
