speed question

Im considering getting a 3hp motor for my 12' plastic porta boat, how fast should I expect a 3 hp motor to push it? I can get 3mph out of a 30lb thrust electric motor.

I have a 36lb Minnkota on my 12 Aluminum and it pushes it at least 5-8mph easy with me and a couple kids and the dog.  Should be more that enough. The slowest i can troll with it is 1mph.
