Kayak and trolling motor?
« on: Mar 10, 2012, 04:07 PM »
My big question is can I change a bow mount trolling motors direction by pulling the head off and and reattaching it 180 degrees?
I like the way they just pull up and fold down added by contolling it with a foot pedal.
I have 2 other row boats I'd like to be able to easily put the new motor on I row them now. I don't want to hack up a new 50 thrust motor to be used on the kayak only.
I'm looking at:

And buy 3 quick remove bracket and rig 2 of them on the back of the rowboats.

What do you guys think

Should be able, as long as your wires are long enough.

Hi NYSporty

Personally I would just build brackets for the 2 row boats and use
the bow mounted trolling motor on them just like you are going to
on the kayak.
Then you wouldn't have to fool around with the power head of the
trolling motor.
It is easier and uses less energy to pull something then to push it.

I planed on using it on the transom of all the boats I don't want the motor in front of me because I'll never see its gonna hit setting in a kayak.
I emailed Minn kota and they said I can spin the head 180 but the steering will then be backwards.
To fix that I plan on reversing the steering wires in the peddle it should be a piece of cake I'm a micro electronics tech.

Sorry I misunderstood you....didn't realize you wanted to use the electric trolling motor on
the back of the kayak.
Sounds like a great idea and I'd love to see a picture of the finished product in action.

Have A Great Day
Bob
