26.5 salmon
« on: Aug 13, 2016, 02:16 PM »
Well had a great day fishing solo today. on the water at 530, landed 4 lakers, 1 rainbow and this 26.5" male salmon. I wish he had some more meat on his bones! Looks like a **** barracuda. If he was of normal weight he would have gone to the taxidermist. I ended up taking him home and will see what he taste like, I don't think he would have made it after the long fight. Game officer Ron Arsennault helped me out by taking the picture for me. All fish were caught from 27 to 33'. green &red and brown trout for colors

Congrats. Love the kype.
I'll bet he was something in his day.
You didn't happen to check his age via fin clip?

Thanks,
I didn't see a fin clip, I was figuring by length he must have been probably a 5 year old. Yup I would have loved to see him in his prime, he had no visible scars or wounds.

I'm embarrassed to say that I don't have a chart now. There are a very few spawned in that lake and a few that get by the clipping.
Fished with a friend Fri, that keeps his chart handy on the boat.
We caught two fat, healthy 5 year old's that were solid 4 + #'s. He caught one 5.4 #, 5 year old Wed.
That fish was 24.5".
Without visible scars, I'm guessing that yours was older and played out. Plenty of forage out there this year.
Of course, he could have swallowed a plastic, but that's a long LLS for where you caught it.

Nice fish!! Did you get a look at his stomach contents? A few Salmon that I've caught have had their digestive tract stopped w/ Senkos or another large plastic

He was spitting up yoy smelt...didn't see any plastic in him He was at the end of the line I think, too bad cause he didn't have any scars or wounds on him. Would have loved to have caught him in his prime!
