Heading out tomorrow with my dad to the salt
« on: Oct 09, 2022, 03:04 PM »
Looks like we will hit Glouchester for some Winter Flounder and some stripers. Any intel to share? I also have a seat in the boat if anyone is interested...

 The last couple of weeks  Gloucester Harbor could be the last spot standing for fall flounder. In a bygone era, flounder would start moving back inshore about now but any semblance of a fall fishery elsewhere is sadly non-existent. Ten Pound Island, Pavilion Beach and Niles Beach are among the better bets for a late season blackback.   Good Luck Alan

Thanks, I wanted to head south for funny fish and tautog, but dad can't handle all the casting... Well if we can't find any flounder we will go looking for busting stripers... Not so bad a backup plan.

They say they have been getting them there the last couple of weeks. Thats why the bait shops in Gloucester have still been carrying worms

Best laid plans... My wife came down with pneumonia, so I had to stick around. So I figured an evening trip to the Conn River, nope I have to take my grandson to soccer tonight (my wife normally does)... I have had some great trips this year, but too much work and life just keep getting in the way of what is important; FISHING!!!!

Thanks, Jigger she is on her meds now and the Doc seems to be on top of it, so I think she will be fine. She even feels better this morning. The good news is that soccer was canceled last night for the grandkids and I ran up to the river for a couple of hours and I am glad I did!
I was fishing from shore with a glow jig and a Gulp! paddle tail and landed my best Walleye to date!

24" and fat, and first fish on a new rod and reel!

The second was a fun size smally on a Z-Man HellraiZer, new to me top water;

Then the almost full moon came up and the fishing was over.
Plans change from fishing the coast for funny fish to hitting Glouchester for flounder to an afternoon on the river, to a quick trip in the evening, but it was worth it and even got a new PB walleye!

Sorry to hear your wife got sick - - but glad to hear she's on the mend.

Those are some beautiful fish in the photos.  Especially the walleye - - I've never caught one of those.

Congrats on your new personal bet Walleye and that smallie wasn't to shabby either.

Every fall the kids go back to school (grandkids for us) and they bring us all the "bugs" to share... How nice.
