Fall Pike baits
« on: Sep 19, 2023, 02:56 PM »
What would be your go-to bait for fall pike?
Specifically in a shallow and weedy ADK lake.

I've got some Mepps spinners, a couple jerk baits, and a whopper plopper style topwater bait.
Anything else I should really consider bringing or any tips on what to focus on?
It rare I find the time to get out for fall pike and wan't to optimize my chances of landing some fish here.

My go to is x-raps. Bigger the better. I can't remember the size but I occasionally use the salt water ones.

Buzz baits, similar to whopper plopper but a little more economically and can create a little more of a wake and noise.  Smaller (go as big as you'd like) Sebile Magic Swimmers are a good option too.

orange has always been good to me. Specifically the Rapala "hot head" color.
Basically anything big or loud or bright works for me.

I don't think i have anything orange at the moment, but I'll be tackle shopping at some point in the next two weeks.

doesn't necessarily need to be orange,  just bright.  Chrome or gold works great too. Normally if you get their attention,  they chase.

Blue chrome rattle trap is a pike slayer if you can keep it out of the weeds.

You've got that right. Caught many a nice pike flipping a jig for bass.
How about white?  Try a white chatter bait (or perch color) in areas that have weeds with some space to retrieve the lure. T-1 Terminator spinner bait in white with gold blade is my go-to for average-sized pike.

My uncle just caught a 42" pike yesterday on a senko. I think he was on the lake after pike but stopped by some stumps to toss a senko for bass. Cant believe he didn't get bit off.

killer bait but a pain to get out when they take it deep.
