Ice Out Pike?

  Northern Pike spawn shortly after ice out right??  How well do they bite and what are some good tactics to use?

They closed here on March 15th in NY...so never really tried untill they open again in May

Spoons and plugs in Southern  Alberta at ice out work well, and the pike really attack them.

What works well here in Montana is using LARGE smelt fished with bobbers near good weed lines , creek channels and  shallow bays.

They can be very active right after ice out. I usually get them on mepps, or slow moving rapalas. MY best luck is in the real shallow water, 2-3 feet. Backs of canals have produced best.

Come on Man!!!  You're trying to tell me you'd rather catch Google Eye sunfish over Pike...    I use bait for Pike bigger than most of those Google Eye's you catch!!!

Thanks Neptune. But you gotta understand them a bit. No real fish to idolize so they picked the easiest one to catch.
