Willow slough
« on: Apr 27, 2022, 08:24 AM »
It's all but gone now. It was fun while it lasted. Bank fishing the channel for the last month has been very productive.  Gave it one last shot last night but the dam was wide open and water level had dropped about another 6 to 8 inches.  Weeds between the shore and channel made landing fish difficult. Be back in about 5 years.

Would have liked to known what size of some of the fish went thru dam. Where does that water run. Probable seeded water somewhere with quality fish.

It heads to Illinois through beaver creek. Then eventually joins the Iroquois river, then the kankakee. A lot of quality fish definitely went through the dam. Before it was fully opened you could see hundreds of fish below the dam. It's all washed out now.

Seems like our state could have done more to save/ relocate alot of those fish. A temporary small pond until enough were gathered then transported to other state areas. Hominy ridge in the salamonie could use a big boost. That' s one place that would get fished alot if it had a better glass of fish. I'm sure there's many many more just like there.

Shocker boats were out several times. Some fish were relocated to Salisbury,  which is connected to the north end of slough.  It will be available to fish but catch and release only as they will use them to restock along with hatchery fish. I believe some bass were relocated to jasper Pulaski.
Last time they drained it they relocated a bunch of bass to potato creek.
