Title: endless supply of free bait ?
Post by: double-aught on Dec 18, 2009, 12:41 PM
has anybody ever heard of "marbled crayfish" ?

i saw an add on craigslist for them. supossedly, you only need one, they reproduce asexually, and are all genetic clones of one another.
said they hatch thousands of young.

here's a link to a site that has them.

Are these things an invasive species if they get away?  I would love to have them in my pond for the bass to eat...

"Very little is known about this species. We know nothing about where marbled crayfish originated, or whether any populations even exist in the wild. If you are thinking about keeping these as pets, please take the utmost care that ensure none enter local waters. They have the potential to be a terrible pest. I would hate for Marmorkrebs eventually being mentioned in the same breath as cane toads or zebra mussels."

I found this on-line . Also there are no known population in North America so they are invasive.

Would be against the law to use them as they are non native.
