Regardless of how the fishing is......a trip through the Gates of the Mountains is always a pleasure!!  In fact when the fishing is poor......the scenery is better because you take the time to look at it all.......... ;D  That being said.........would like to know when the eyes start staging at the mouth........!

We went through the Gates of the Mountains yesterday. Great day and good scenery but poor fishing so no pics of the fish that we didn't catch.

Ken,

Can you boat camp up there? As in can you put in your boat with all your camping gear and go upriver and camp along the shore somewhere?

Yes, there are quite a few good spots and a few somewhat developed spots as well.

I/m not sure of the camping regs up there but there were several camps set up . I'm thinking anywhere on BLM would be good to stay at.

You can only camp on the one side of the river.  I would call it the north side, but of course that changes.....LOL.  It's the left side on the way down river from the gates.  We do it every year.  There's some awesome camp spots along there and if it wasn't for camping up there we probably wouldn't go to Holter Lake at all.......

Thanks guys. I have never been there and it looks super pretty. I think maybe I will have to make that a destination this summer to go and camp there just to see it. It sounds like it would be a good time and great scenery.

Thanks FishN4Eyes..........I've gotten my share of help from these pages as well.  I like to see people have successful trips, so if a piece of advice or something I may know will help.......then always glad to lend a hand.
