trolling rod for planer boards
« on: Apr 24, 2008, 10:40 PM »
I have a 9' light action Ugly Stik model# BWD1101 which is actually a down rigger rod and I was wondering if I could use it for trolling with planer boards. I will be using the Offshore boards. Any input would be appreciated.

I say downrigger rods are a very good choice for in-line planer boards.  The action is soft enough to avoid ripping the line out of the clips in rough water, and they are long enough to keep your line out of the water.
"But she's in good shape for the shape she's in...cause she's been through the fire before, and I believe she can take a whole lot more...So we raise her up every morning, we take her down every night, we don't let her touch the ground, and we fold her up right...on second thought, I do like to brag, cause I'm mighty proud of that ragged old flag." -Johnny Cash
