New State Record Trout Awaits Conf. from IF&W (Result is in)

Wow nice fish but isn't a brookie and probably is a lake trout. I know of a couple ponds that doesn't have lake trout too but they still catch them in the 12 to 15 pound range when they get one. Been catching spake since maine started stocking them and ain't seen one that looks like that. Still a nice fish though congratulations.                                                                                           Barkspud

My money is on lake trout,nice fish ,but no way it's a brookie..Could be a splake but there is not much color .BB

I too have been fishing splake for years now....Id put my money on it...NOT....being one...
but different lakes seem to produce different looking fish...so I wish the man LUCK!

Two State record fish!!!! Those kind of thing just don't happen. It's like winning megabucks and powerball. Or having the waitress slip and fall on you at the Grandview and then apologizing by giving you free donuts.

Thanks a lot for posting the pics, Jim!  You can see the left ventral fin clip nicely in some of the pics.  Will be curious what the autopsy shows.

That sure is a dandy of a fish regardless of what it is. My money is on a togue. I've never seen a splake with such a fork in the tail, which is one of the major differences in the two. For Steve's sake I hope I'm wrong because it's quite an accomplishment to have a state record, say nothing about two!

If they are in the same hatchery it would be easy to do.We have a few brookie ponds up north that will spit out a big laker every now and then.BB

Maybe the local food pantry can smoke it. It is still one heck of a fish. Not many people get one that size.
