Fishing the Illinois
« on: Feb 24, 2010, 04:40 PM »
Has anyone on the forum fished the Illinois?  If not, you are missing one of the greatest fisheries in the midwest.  I have only fished the Starved Rock area, only because I had a small 14 ft v-hull with a 8 hrsp moter.  I bought a new boat, now the river is mine.  Great catches of white Bass, sauger, walleyes, and other species.  I'll give details if anyone is intetrested.

I just moved back to IL from Northern Wi so I always looking for a good spot. I have a big boat with a 65hp on it . It seem like I cant take it to any lake because of the 10 HP rule. I don't think starved rock is to far away I might have to give it a try.

Just watch for the asian carp at the dam in the spring, a couple flew over my boat last year.  Putting in at Starved rock can be a little difficult.  No dock in place.  Thats why I put the question out there to see if there is a better place.  I heard Spring Valley has a dock.  10 miles down river.
