Beautiful Saturday Evening
« on: Apr 17, 2016, 06:36 AM »
Finally was able to get out on the open water Saturday.  Arrived at the pond about 4:00.  The wind wasn't too bad, I was able to fish anywhere on the pond in my little 12 footer and not get blown around much.  Tried a couple of my usual spots on the pond but never got a bite, I had my new medium heavy rod with me that I hadn't even casted yet, so I went to another spot to try getting on some Bass.  Still not a bite.  The sun was just about to start dropping behind the ridge so I decided to see if I could at least troll and scrounge up some White Perch.  It wasn't looking good,  then I finally hooked a fish and pulled in a Crappie.  Got into them just a little bit.  Caught a couple smaller 8 inch ones that I let go, and kept these.  I kept this scrappy little Pumpkinseed also, not huge, but not a bad size either.

It was a lot warmer on the pond than I expected.  I stayed pretty warm, and only had to put on my jacket over my sweatshirt after the sun was completely down.  All in all it was a gorgeous evening.

Nice!  Can't wait till the waters warm up!  My goal is to go after panfish more often with a fly rod this year.

Nice. Got into 36 of them today. Could have got more but called it a day. Some friends were into them for around a 100. My guess. Some around 13 in.

Good looking Crappie FF, like the cutting board pics makes me hungry. Sounds like it was a nice sunset cruise on the pond.
