When I was a kid everyone kept them.  They only had to be 10 inches and the limit was 6.  The smaller ones are extremely good eating.  Now with all the bass fishing on tv and tournaments it's like a sin to keep them?  On the other hand, it was extremely rare to catch a 3 lb smallmouth back then, nowadays people catch much larger ones regularly in Lake O and the St. Lawrence.  Let's hope they don't start having perch tournaments on tv!

No shad on this lake so mostly crayfish, bugs and perch as food so I keep a few. I let 2 over 4 pounds go and a bunch smaller too. Plenty of bass to not miss a few here. Oneida used to be a bass keeping mecca as a kid with opening day having guys all over with full stringers. Not so much anymore.

I totally agree. I usually make a couple of bass trips in the same areas as you and keep and enjoy eating those smaller bass.  I just think of them as bigger perch filets ;D
