Now you could bring up the question of catching bass on their beds. . The bigger females . . And them not returning to their beds to spawn. .  :-\

Id think if it was a huge concern state fisheries biologists would modify the season accordingly.

I'm not a dedicated bass fisherman as I prefer perch, sunfish, pike, rockbass.  But generally larger bass are females and females don't stay on the beds after spawning.  The male has the job of defending the nest and fry, for a while I believe.  The big problem in lakes that have gobies is that if the male is taken off the nest the dang gobies come in immediately and start eating.  Here is a nice article on bass reproduction:

Another thing to keep in mind about any fish in the sunfish family; bass, bluegills, crappies, etc that build nests is, the male is not feeding the entire time it's on the nest so catch and release in itself can be hard on the fish if it's guarding a nest.

Jperch. You sound like me and my preferences ;D
Except today. All this talk about bass and I’m heading out with a couple dozen crabs to a favorite finger to see if I can poke a few.

It's fun to catch bass but I like to eat what I am fishing for.  For me, bass are at best "ok".  I know you like to fish for rockies, my brother did ok on them last week on Sodus.  They were mostly spawned out so it must be about over.
