Winni Derby???
« on: May 12, 2022, 05:35 AM »
Any of my Maine buddies fishing the Winnipesaukee derby this weekend? I came the last two weekends in a row and here now getting my set up tune in. Last Saturday we had a great day with 8 salmon to the boat and one rainbow.

Heard about it from your friend that's in Rangeley with me.  Looks like a boat winning fish🤣  Congrats, that's a wall hanger for sure

We never saw the fish for 25 min. I kept right on the guy about not putting his thum on the reel. Then he would pinch the line with his thumb. It was frustrating. But in the end we got it in the net and the hook popped out.

I was told this was the largest salmon entered in the Winni derby in 28 years. I don’t know how accurate that is but two locals told us that.
In all we boated 18 salmon 3 were over 4.5 lbs. I also won the 3ed largest salmon on Sunday with a 23 7/8” 4.96 lb

Fantastic! Congratulations!!

Big time congrats.  I've had several trophies lost at the boat due to angler error.  Ran charter boats for years, and amazed me that even people that know what they're doing, get so excited, they crank the drag, reel the leader into the eyes, point the tip at the fish, etc.  Guess that's why the smart fish get bigger🤷‍♂️. Anyway, hope that one goes on the wall....maybe a pic of the fish on your new boat's dash
