Title: Boat Storage
Post by: Rugburn on Oct 18, 2018, 01:03 PM
What steps do you take to prevent rodents from having a party in your boat when it is in winter storage?
My boat will be in an unheated garage for the winter, and power is available. Just curious what works for you...

Boy your gonna get a lot of great answers,  so here are mine....
When you remove the plug , stuff a little steel wool in the hole..
Remove your rear tie downs so they cant climb up..
Disconnect your winch hook from the bow..
Use peppermint oil, spray or extract all over the inside...      ;)

Peppermint oil has worked well for us in the past.

Thanks for the suggestion about the rodents climbing up. I’ll do that this year.

I've had the critters eat the residual slime off the boat net in past winters.

4 or 5 little bags of moth balls have worked for me. I just tie up some in seine  netting and put them in all the compartments. One year I noticed some sunflower seeds on the floor of the boat so I set a trap and caught a chipmunk. They're way worse than mice.

I've also got 3 of those little electronic critter chasers plugged in outlets around the garage. I guess they help. Haven't seen any critters anyway.

Well I'm going to do all the suggestions... Haha  That ought to slow the buggers down.
Wishful thinking, but the boat is ready fish if we get a warm up. One prerequisite is I have a bow deer hanging in the barn first, better get that done.
