Bummer Jay..........been like that this year......haven't fished without wind much and blown off Tiber last Saturday early.  Jerry.......Frances produced.  wasn't hot and heavy, fast and furious but we bottom bounced our way into about 30 eyes....many small.......and some hammer handles.  We brought home a nice limit........

Pretty slow at hauser,  two rainbows, another boat had only one small eye at the ramp when we pulled out.  Sorta rainy (like ALL day).

We started at Tongue but were not quite geared up for the cold/wind/rain so we left around 10 on Saturday. We did get 1 keeper northern and a bunch of smallmouths on jigs. Then we went to Yellowtail and got 1 nice crappie and a bunch more smallmouths.

Looking at Frances for the weekend.......weather is looking great.  I'd love to get on Tiber, but until they stabilize the water level up there, the walleye will be iffy.........You'll get em, but it's gonna be hard work.

Fished Holter and found out that is where there is no boating etiquette at all.  Just because you can afford a boat doesn't mean you can drive one.  Anyway...  No walleye, just a couple rainbows, and a ton of little perch.  Enough action on the perch to keep the two little ones happy.  Tried trolling but there are just way too many loose weeds and some green slime in the water to keep from have to run the gear every 3-5 minutes.  Had a couple of fish hit when pulling cranks over top of the weed beds but all came loose when the 3 and 5 year old tried to reel them in.  Makes me want my trip to Fort Peck get here even sooner!

Headed out for Tiber in a few.  Gonna be a warm one.  We'll be in the VFW campground tenting it.......older red Lund, 90 Merc, grey Dakota, stop by and say hi.  Jules is meeting a friend up there and gonna fish with her for a day.  They are going to do the Women's tournament July 19th and they have never fished together.

Wherever you're going, have fun, be safe.  You know how crazy the holidays can be..........

Have a Smith River permit for Saturday, but flows are way down, water temps way up and nobody catching anything the past two weeks per ranger at Camp Baker.  So switching gears - shorter 3-4 day trip down the Blackfoot.

Glad to hear you had a good time.  River was running 265-270 cfs when you dumped in - still decent water for cats and rafts.  This morning it's at 222; below the bare minimum of 225 for cats/rafts - a lot of dragging until one gets down to Tenderfoot.  Not interested in dragging my cat, so will just try again next year.  I wonder why ranger was telling me no one catching fish and hoot owl hours are about to go into affect.

With great snow pack everywhere in the state I can't believe how low all the creeks/rivers are already.  Highwood creek is almost unfishable and Belt creek is low.  I thought it was going to be a great year on the creeks and rivers.  I've never done the Smith but I'm sorry for those that went through the process to get the permit, then can't use it!

Got blown off Tiber, I fished Friday, then they got the tournament in Saturday morning and that was about it, wind came up big time.  We came home, I'm not one to sit in camp and watch the wind blow.........LOL

I just got back from a tournament out of Crooked Creek. Fishing was pretty slow for walleyes for most teams. Although most walleyes caught were in the 20-24" range. I don't think you need to travel far, as most of the good fishing was in the Fourchette and Devils Creek area. Plenty of Bass, Northerns, Crappie, and Catfish to be had.

Post by: fishyfishy on Aug 19, 2014, 09:21 AM
We just spent a week out on Ft. Peck we put in at Hell Creek and did okay, Meaning we caught fish everyday seems like the fish don't like the warming weather we trolled small red crank baits with red hooks that seems like the color for the walleyes and pike. We had a top water frenzy at sunset in the back bays for Goldeyes that was super fun. A spot we had consistent luck was Petersen Point but the entire like was doing well. Where we marked fish in the fish finder we had a bit.

Good Luck!

Post by: bullseyez on Aug 24, 2014, 09:40 AM
Thanks for the reports guys- we had slow fishing(for Peck) due to the weather and water temps, but still managed to find half a dozen walleye in the 3-6 lb range and I also got a 4 lb 14 oz smallie so all in all it was a good trip. Lots of crappies and goldeneyes, some northerns and quite a few small walleyes. Blue worked the best for us, most fish came out of 18-26 fow off of main lake points from Fourchette clear down to Timber Creek.

bullseyez, were you out of there before the rain hit? Sounds bad in that area today.
Title: Re: Where ya going this week?
Post by: bullseyez on Aug 27, 2014, 12:56 AM
We left  two days earlier than planned because of the rain, I was worried about being stuck until the roads dried out and my son had to be back for school. The gravel roads out were ugly and I don't think we'd have made it if we waited another day. You could have whitewater kayaked in some of the bigger coulees, and it looked like the highway North of Fred Robinson bridge might be under water in a spot or two where the culverts were too small to handle the runoff.

Here we are again........Labor Day Weekend, d**n this fishing season flew by, but the best is yet to come.  Choices of where to fight the crowds this weekend, everything north of us is windy, but if I had to choose between Tiber, Fresno and Frances to fight wind, I think it'd be Frances.  Thinking that's where we will give it a go..........

TJ how was the catching? Did you launch at Barry's or the dam? Thanks!!
Title: Re: Where ya going this week?
Post by: TJet Apprentice45 on Sep 03, 2014, 11:04 AM
Fishing was pretty good at YT, launched at the dam and fished all over from there to the slide.  Jigging was pretty slow, the fish had too much time to stare at it and decide not to hit.   Switched it up and started speed trolling small cranks and floating rapalas with the big motor and had a blast.  Couldn't keep two rods apiece in the water, lots of dinks but it didn't take long to have a limit of good eaters in the tank.    All the main lake points that had a steady drop off were full of bass.  Tried some bigger cranks thinking we might find some bigger fish but they all seemed to like the smaller presentation.  Didn't matter what color.

After a successful outing last weekend at Dailey's, I would love to go back. Hard to beat 11 walleye in less than 2 hours (9 of which were keepers). Perhaps...perhaps not. I heard about a good brown bite up by Lombard, but the d**n spawn....as I have gotten older I feel guilty for targeting such fish...but I still have a hunger for HUGE fish, so which one plays out in the end...conscience or greed?

Well....this is about the time of year I go get super serious about Dailey's. Heading up with a couple friends on Friday night.  2 boats.  A ton of rods. Beer. Camp cookout. And hopefully some slabs of perch!! Who knows....might get lucky and hook up on one of those ridiculous rainbows!

Just returned from lower Yellowstone adventure. I was supposed to go yesterday (5-21-2016) early in the morning.
But sometimes plans fall through, and sometimes because of it, a better plan comes along...
That said, a friend stopped by yesterday evening hopped up to go catch cats. Being disappointed from earlier, I offered to fill his gas tank and go. (Thankfully the Mrs was ok With that)
We made it to Captain Clark right before 9pm. Surprisingly, there was actually some campers there for a change. After inquiring about the fishing and trading beers, my friend and I headed up stream to the creek...upstream of the creek...across the creek....over the mountains and thru the woods to catfishing hole we'll go (good grief)...until we came to the main creek channel and walked it to it's mouth. Now I've seen the Yellowstone much higher in past seasons, but it's flat out moving this year. It's kind of intimidating when you see the force behind the current and water flows....anyway, since we were late heading out, I brought some frozen sucker with, just in case we needed it. Usually I fish for fresh bait first, but no need this time. The frozen sucker worked like a champ. We layed out 4 rods, on the last bend of the creek before the mouth. One up top, two through the middle, and one at the tail end flat. Within 15 minutes, we switched to one rod apiece. The action was fast and continuous from 9:30 until 1 am. 26 channel cats ranging from 2lbs up to the biggest, caught by my friend, an 11.4 lbs channel!!! I also managed a bonus ling for the second year in a row...It was crazy. Generally most night for me out there is like a total of 8-10 cats. So 26 was something special, at least for me. I personally caught 16.
We got back to the truck about 1:45 am. We both kept 3 cats and despite really wanting the ling, I released it since it was close to 27". I figure the Stone could use a few more mature ling like that to keep the numbers up.
All in all, great outing, especially when I was set on not being able to do anything this weekend.

Looks like TooLucky lucked out too and had a great day, despite the weather!! This spring has totally held true to how unpredictable this state can be weather wise.

Glad I didn't go when I wanted to. I guess I missed a nasty hail storm and tornado warning. Jeez.

Going to check out some creeks outside of Huntley this weekend. I've been trying to decide if I want to go upstream on Pryor Creek, or go to Razor Creek outside of Shepard. Perhaps I go to Pompeys....that's an idea...I really don't know. Just know that catfish is the agenda.

We bypassed the unknown, for the tried and true this weekend. Once you have an established honey hole, it's hard to try and find others, especially when you have limited time. And when 5 hours are taken from you just driving, sometimes you make the decision of get those darn fish!!!
That said, Captain Clark is a hotspot this year. Although I didn't have a 26 catfish day, the fishing was still insane!! Not to sure what's up, but the drum were extremely aggressive. Worms, cutbait, minnows...it didn't matter, the thunderpumpers were eating it all. Made for a fun day, as they are possibly the best pound for pound freshwater fighter. Not to mention they get big. Real big. I caught two over 8 pounds and that's just starting to hit their growth cycle.
All 42 drum caught, were successfully released back into the Stone. I wanted to keep a couple to try frying, but everything was over 5 pounds. Just crazy big.
Did manage 6 cats and I believe a Sauger, but could have been saugeye. It was tiny. 12" on a crawler.  Stone cats and bullheads were non-existant.

Finally...some cool weather to mellow things out!!! I can't wait to make the drive from Belgrade, out to the lower Yellowstone. I have a sneaking suspicion, that the fishing will be action packed!!! Where you going?

Captain Clark once again was the hotspot!!! 4 cats. 6 Smallies. 3 goldeye. 1 carp. And something that broke 14# test like it was nothing!!! And this was in only 2 hours of fishing...in mid day on Saturday. All fish were caught on  night crawlers. After the rains, the water was stained and perfect for worms.
