Looking to get a new 15 hp motor and was looking at a few.
I leaning towards a Mercury or Yamaha 4 stroke with a long shaft.
I know guys have their personal preferences but looking for people who own the products and why they purchased these and how do they like them or not?
Pros & Cons.

Went with Mercury on all my outboards for the last 2 boats, like the warranty that they have and availability of parts and ease to work on them. Right now I have a 174 Pro XS and a 9.9 pro kicker EFI. The last ones I had were a 90 Optimax, the thing was remembering the to fill the oil reservoir, and a 6hp kicker. I would say the electric start and EFI are the way to go, easy start. Right now I see Mercury is doing a couple more years of warranty so you get 5 years now.

I have a 2007 , 250 verado and a 9.9 pro kicker on my Lund 2025 LE and loads of trouble free hours of trolling , I have friends that have yammys and have great luck , things is almost all small motors are made by tohatsu
Tohatsu
Mercury outboards 30 hp and below are manufactured by Tohatsu in Japan. Mercury has recently developed a processor-enhanced line of outboards

Rich:
They are both good companies and both make excellent outboards.
However, consider this…..
Why do most fishing outfitters in Canada use Yamahas?
Good luck bud.

I think these days every manufacturer makes a very good, reliable unit. I would shop for the best warranty and dealer network where you are.

Hi buddy.
How you been?
I been alright... not a great winter season up here, not cold or snowy enough for my fun times but what can you do? How about yourself? I've been doing a lot of building in your state the past 10 months. Lots of weed shops being built. And fire stations and schools.

I'm good Geoff.
Not been fishing though.
For far too long.
Time to rectify that.
My son Jeff is coming down in April - he wants to go.

Lots of OEM white labels in the smaller sizes. Aka big manufacturers making motors for tohatsu ect.

I just repower my 16’ Lund Mr.Pike that had a 2 stroke Johnson 40 to a Mercury 60. Little over powered, but I’m happy, I don’t need to be going over 25 MPH anyway

Watch your mouth!
Nothing is OVER powered.
And next time is raining buckets and you are on your way back to the dock I'll bet you won't say it is over powered.....................or be doing only 25. :rotflol:
The 60 Merc 4st is a very nice motor.
I had that same motor on my Lund.

I have a 2002 Merc 15 hp 4 stroke. Bought it new and have had no problems with it. I also have a 2006 Merc 9.9 Pro Kicker bought new, which has been trouble free.
