48" x 28 1/2" Pa. Musky
« on: Sep 08, 2005, 08:18 AM »
This is a Slobosaurus of a Musky!!!

This was taken directly off the Pa. website;
Lon Craigle caught this monster tiger muskellunge while fishing for walleyes on 8/16/05 at Tuscarora Lake in Schuylkill County. It was caught on a shiner minnow at dusk on 8 lb. test. It measured 48 inches in length, and had a girth of 28 1/2 inches. An accurate weight was not obtained. The fish was kept and will be mounted. The picture is taken at the dock on the lake.
This is the link;   http://sites.state.pa.us/PA_Exec/Fish_Boat/splsero.htm#tiger
I'm not sure it is a Tiger Musky. Many people are saying it is not but either way it is truly a trophy fish.

OH MY GOD!!!  That's a musky.  That is truly immense.  The catch of a lifetime.  Congrats to that gentleman.   8 pound test???  That must have been quite a battle.  Wish it was me...

I just put that thing on the ice shanty fish calculator, and it puts the weight at 43 pounds as a muskie and 40 pounds as a pike

The lake where the fish was caught is stocked with trout and is only 950 acres.
Someone on another board had said that the fish caluclator does not work on a fish with such a massive girth. They said it is probably closer to 48 lb.s.
No roe either the fish was caught August 16th. They don't start developing their eggs until late winter early spring. I could not imagine what this fish would look like full of eggs. Oh my God it would look like a pig with no feet.

Too bad an accurate weight was not obtained. I would bet that fish a line class record for sure, if not a state record. (I did not check out state records due to laziness)

A super nice fish.  But think of all of the panfish and bass that
will grow up to catchable size now that muskie is gone. I hate
the darn things!

Kinda like saying all coyotes should be shot so that there are more deer.  There has to be high level predators to keep things in balance.

Let me put it this way. There is now a few more panfish and bass that will survive, but that means there is less food to go around, so they don't get as big.

Wow!! Seedweed01
Pretty narrow minded thing to say.

"A super nice fish.  But think of all of the panfish and bass that

the darn things!"

I almost think that you are trying to get a rise out of someone by saying that.
Ok I'll bite. Here you go!!

What you don't think Bass eat Bass or panfish for that matter. I live in Jersey and I had my niece out fishing for sunnies here and while she was reeling a nice sized sunnie a 9 lb. Large mouth grabbed it and was hooked. Of course I released it for her.
I myself have caught Large mouth that most Bass fisherman dream of on 10" Crankbaits and Jerkbaits.
Big fish eat big bait!!
A 9lb. Bass will eat a 3lb. Bass and that is a fact. Fish can eat another fish 1/3 their size. So maybe we should take out all the big fish.

I don't think that you will see too many bass fisherman out there chucking 10" baits trying to catch a lunker Bass.
So peoples inability to catch fish is because there is a big muskie in the lake.
Most people place blame on Muskies when they are not able to evaluate the fishing situation and adapt to it.

Do some research and you will see that Muskie want to eat soft fin prey like suckers and they don't gorge themselves like blue fish and puke and keep eating they eat and than they don't until they need to. Why do you think they are so hard to catch.

It just burn my $## to hear this crap.
So lets kill all the Muskies so than you can catch some more bass and sunnies right and than what are you going to do with them? Are you going to take them home and eat them? So you can eat them but the Muskies can't. OK
I'll bet you if you eat your catch that you can eat more fish in 1 year than that musky could.

So when does it stop your Bass are eating my sunnies and trout so maybe we should take out all the Bass than.

Hey you know something Walleye love perch so maybe the perch fisherman should want all the Walleyes taken out because those Darn Walleye are eating their perch.

Carl Spackler: We can do that. We don't even need a reason.

Before we had all the coyotes, we had a lot more deer.

Everyone has there own opinion.  I won't even comment on jyoung's
reply.
