Chemung River-Corning
« on: Apr 06, 2021, 07:15 AM »
Hey fellas hope all is well. Planned a little family getaway later this week , will be staying in Corning, hitting the glass museum, was hoping to get out with the boy while the girls shop. Have gear for all species, just wondering if there were any cool spots around Corning? Thanks in advance.

Park at Wegman’s and walk down to the river. I’ve done a lot of carp fishing in that section. Gotta think there’s other species in that stretch as well.
Have a good weekend.

Yup - Bob is right - under the bridge there.
Smallies can be caught.
I typically toss a small Mepps spinner and get pretty good action.
Nothing large but they are fun.

But the carp are huge and they will take flies.

Well the Chemung was extremely low and clear, the hotel we stayed at was right across the bridge from Wegmans! Fished under the bridge on that side Thursday night for a couple hours, then switched over to the other side on Friday night. Nothing. BUT i did have a great time and can tell you everything about the history of glass now!

Well, everyone had fun I hope.

It’s kind of a warm water thing down there. I remember My Bride and I taking my Daughter and  Grandson to CGM and crossing that bridge. It was late June I think. We could see the mud plumes from the feeding carp in the river. The next week I was on that water with my fly rod and managed a couple screamers.
