Title: Cabela's/Bass Pro HD Food Saver...
Post by: piscesman on Oct 30, 2020, 09:16 AM
Well our long time food saver bit the dust. Tried everything and it's time to move on. We happened to have received a gift card to them BP & C and did a search on what they offered. Found the Heavy Duty one fits the bill. The question is, has anyone here used or tried it? Your thoughts. Food Saver has definitely saved us many $$$ over the years. Don't want to purchase a lemon and can then concentrate different venues. Thanks for any help.

I ordered the Foodsaver V2244S from Amazon during the start of the lockdown. I regret not getting one years ago.

I take advantage of every chicken and beef sale I come across, keep a nice inventory on a spreadsheet I laminated. Use wet erase marker which makes it simple to maintain. I also bought a half pig in August so I have ample pork cuts as well.

Problem is now that deer season is upon us I will have to get another chest freezer for venison. Probably a cheapie from Home Depot

Thats awesome.  I was stock piling pan fish and mine bit the bullet quick.  I should replace it.

It’s funny how a pandemic can change a man.

No, I didn’t lose my marbles (of what I have left) but I also filleted my first fish in probably 3 decades. With the food saver and room in the chest freezer, I have been fish for food ever since.

Can’t wait to target perch on the hard water

I have the Cabela's CG-15 vacuum sealer. I can't remember when I bought it years ago. It has sealed thousands if pounds of meat over the years and is still going strong.

I have the Pro HD and its doing its job. However, I use 3 food savers at once to make things go faster. Why I have not stepped up to a commercial yet, I am not sure but I feel like I am getting my moneys worth out of the HD. I probably pack 500lbs of fish in a season, 1000 lbs of sausage, and another 1000lbs of game meat a year. With that said, so far all is well and I would recommend it. The HD travels nice as well and has made many ice fishing trips with me.

Mike Id be rocking a canister sealer if I were you!  The issue is they are expensive.  My foodsaver didn't last 3 months!

Weston I believe 400 or 4000 are great sealers little more pricey than food saver but worth it.  It took 4 years to break first one and that is after 2500 meat birds 200 turkeys and 15 white tails and plenty of other random things.  Why Weston they are serviceable every single part can be replaced may take a minute trouble shooting but pretty simple.  We have two now first one repaired, but can't be without one during heat of processing.  Weston also has largest sealer bar allowing you to use up to 15 inch bag for large things. Fact can get a 32 lb turkey in with a little elbow grease

My wife's lasted just a little longer. Not impressive.

I have a commercial Weston vacuum sealer as I seal a lot of whole fish up to 8 or 10 lbs. The Foodsaver unit I had didn't last either.

So far so good.
