Title: Eleven mile open for boating.
Post by: IceOsprey on Apr 14, 2015, 10:06 PM
Ok open to boating! I need to settle down. The water temp is still low so the action will most likely be slow but I am ok with that. Anyone else ready to launch their vessel into the mile's frigid waters?

I hate trout, if going anywhere it will be Pueblo.

Thank goodness not everyone shares my affinity for trout fishing or god forbid the mile might look like pueblo. Boats racing everywhere fights at the boat ramp all that you can have.

I boat 11-mile a bunch.  Mid-may is the earliest I have ever boated it.  Too cold out there.  July-August is best for size and numbers anyway.

Today was a nice day to get the boat out and learn the downriggers. Water temp was 44 deg and light wind. No luck but marked loads of fish. Got one bite on power bait at anchor. All in all it was a good first outing of the season to check all the systems on the boat.

Skunked at the Mile? :D

Skunked? Yes! Not my first time and certainly not my last. ;) The report says that I left the lake one hour too early missed the two o'clock stampeded of monster fish.

Eight dinks today, great wind, good waves/swells too much to manage trolling so we hid behind an island anchored up and tossed bait. Didn't get skunked and got to practice our seamanship.

Status report. Calm day, scattered clouds, chilly morning, warming in the afternoon, good bite from 9:30-11:00. Bite calmed down, then two 3lb ers around three. Just shy of three limits from 8:45 till 2:30. Nice day out and an even nicer dinner tomorrow. Needle fish were definitely on the menu. Somebody's smoker is going to be working tomorrow.

P. S. Does anybody post on this site it seems like it's filled with only lurkers. I mean look at the crickets post I put up, over a hundred views one responce. It is a joke about how empty this site feels some times.

Update: Three limits from 8:30 till 11:30 no bites till 9:45. Nothing of note but the smoker will be working after the brine is done. Three two pounders and the rest were small. Needlefish down ten feet.

Friday fishing report: You all know last week I did not go fishing, in my experience if I miss a week of fishing I always do worse the next time I go. I took a friend from work and his eleven year old daughter it was her first time fishing. We ended up with two fish. Lost two lures one fish got snagged on the boat and broke off another I grabbed the line to haul it in and it shook the hook. Trolling was slow but I did not use pop gear. We ended up tossing P.B. At anchor and caught the two.

The water seemed fine a few weeds floating about a little murky but I think that is from the wind? It did not seem unusually high. I did not fish the inlet aka the west end, and the report says that it was the hot spot.

Fished the inlet end Sunday it stunk-  5 tiny bows all day. No pike. Never saw anyone else go for the net either-

Actually had a Kokanee grab my jig late in the day, came shooting out of the water and broke the leadhead jig in half- Thats about how my day went.

Report: Started fishing about eight. Caught a small trout. Then decided to try for kokes, fished between duck and deer island and caught some more trout about two lbs. Ended up catching five fish no kokes. And as I was getting ready to call it a day at 11:15 we hooked into another fish just north of duck island, looked like a nice three pounder fought it for a while took about four runs and then shook the hook about fifteen feet from the boat. Not sure what it was but probably a koke... Yeah right.

I've never done the crawdaddy thing-

I can't say I really know what I am doing, but I boil them with a simple recipe and eat the tails with garlic butter. Adds a little bit of variety to the dinner table. And why not I am catching them while I am fishing anyway. Just toss out the trap before I start to troll then collect the trap before we head in.

Went out today, it was slow lost one close to the boat because my neighbor horsed the dam thing all the way till he pulled the hook out! But we ended up with three two dinks and one 2lb 11oz kokanee that's right a kokanee. Ohh and some crawdads. Remember how I said I don't know what I am doing. I killed half of them because I went to purge them and didn't throw out the water thinking they would be fine in the water. They drown if you don't change the water frequently of dump it out completely. Lesson learned.

Yep you guessed it I went out Sunday morning to the mile. Took my wife and one year old son with us this time. We caught 4 and a bunch of crawdads.

Don't worry I didn't miss a weekend at the mile. I went out with my 4 year old and we caught one right away and then nothing the rest of the trip. We did haul in about 5 lbs of crawdads.

Ok ok ok I know it's been a while but I was hoping to turn it around this weekend but I could not. So I didn't go to the lake for like two weeks. OMG. I KNOW. Any way last week we went out took the neighbor and his boy, skunkola zip zero nada. So I didn't post. I had too much shame! Then today i took the boy out and we fished for four hours, trolled no bites, anchored and tossed bait no bites. I think I might put the boat away for the season and dream about ice fishing!!!

I finally made it out to the mile today! This was a "will the boat do what it should trip". Added some seafoam then filled the tank with E free fuel. Headed to the lake, launched in some good wind and waves. Turned the key..... And yes it started for the first time this season!!! Impeller pump. Check . Parked. My boy and I motored around a bit trolled some. Hell we hardly marked any fish! No suprise 3 hours later no bites. The sonar was a little off to start with but got that going. So far this season as far as maintenance goes I need to get a hub dust cover and a new trailer 4 wire plug, d**n tit broke off one of em. Ohh overcast water temp 44.5 to 45.5 windy and waves, sun almost broke out and fish still hibernating.

Hit up the mile today! Started at spiny actually caught 3 browns. Left and went to the mile about noonish was windy but caught three rainbows and one pike. The biggest bow was 3lbs 8oz. Jointed rapala, rainbow color was the ticket today.

Was at the mile by 9:30 10:00 went out west landed 11 fish. Nothing big. But I took a co worker and his 7 year old girl. We had enough action to keep everybody happy. Little bit of wind but not much the bite got really hot around eleven then was dead by one. Same set up as last week.

Headed up to go fishing today! Busy busy busy!!! The no name tournament was going on. Couldn't find a parking spot in the lot and had to go to the overflow lot? :( Headed to the west end in about twenty foot of water, water temp is just under fifty three degrees. Ended up catching about seventeen fish, nothing that deserves a mention but it kept the two kids and us two adults entertained. Rapala, wiggle hoochie, dick nite, tasmainian devil, arnies dynamite, all seemed to entice a bite. Wind would come and go, mostly clear. The boats were thick out on the water also. The smoker will be going as soon as the brine sets in.  ;)

Ok Ok Ok. I know it has been way too long since I have been fishing. Work, vacation, and more work. Next weekend I am on call so I lose one more opportunity for fishing. Ugh. Ok the report for today. Early start, for me anyway. On the water just before eight. Clear, calm, sunny. Water 64.4, set out my crawfish traps and then started trolling. Had two knock downs then one fish, cutbow. Orange arnies dynamite. Got a koke then slow slow slow. Threw every thing at them that was orange and pink nothing. Decided way too late to try a yellowish green needlefish. Two more trout. Then nothing. Put the dynomite back on to troll back to the traps and we picked up one more koke on a pink humpy needlefish. Too small to trip the release. All in all two kokes, three trout, and a few crawdads. Too early still for crawdads I guess. Left the lake about one.

Today's report. Got out early between eight and nine. Calm clear warm water was about 68 deg. Set out the crawdad traps then trolled a little for some kokes, nothing so we went out to the west end for some trout. Picked up one on a pink humpy needlefish. Troll was slow so we anchored and tossed power bait. Caught one moved, caught another moved, by this time the wind had picked up enough to pull the anchor around so we moved to a leeward location and caught our fourth and final fish of the day. Checked the traps had about three to four pounds of mud bugs. Headed in about two. Read the report and I didn't find it to be superexellent but mabe it's just me.

Ohh and the weeds are floating around mucking it up a bit from middle of the lake to the west end.

Report. Today I slept in and took my time. I got to the lake at 11:00 set my traps and started trolling. One knock down on a orange black spotted yellow winged tasmanian devil. And that's the whole report. Ohh and we got 5lbs of crawdads. I threw everything in my arsenal at them and they didn't want any of it. I did see one boat land one fish, and the guy at the marina said it was black and purple tube jigs today. Oh well I need to save up these skunks now so when the ice is ready I will not get skunked.

Report: Got to the lake at nine rigged up and started trolling at nine thirty. Lake was calm sky was clear water was 66.7 degrees whole lake has some sort of algae suspended in the water. Not a single bite. Started down at thirty feet moved up to twenty five feet then to fifteen and ten then seven. Not sure what part of the water column the fish were hungry at but I didn't find them. So I went to my backup. Find some fish on the sonar in twenty something depth and toss power bait. Hour or so later nothing. Texted my wife no fish for dinner, not one minute after I sent the text my pole started tugging. Just the usual fair fourteen to just under sixteen size. My boy was ready to go so I said top of the hour and we will head out. Three minutes to one and the other pole starts to dip. Fish was putting up a decent fight, made me think it could be a pike. Halfway through the fight the second pole starts to shake. Landed the one. It ended up being a 4lb 2 oz cutbow. And the last one was same as the first. Pulled anchor headed in. The bite seems the be later in the day. Right at one o'clock is when the action started for us. Salmon peach and chunky cheese. West end.

Got back out there after a long hiatus. The smoker will be catching up on lost time! Started out overcast but calm, I decided not to waste time with trolling. Anchored just east of goose island and tossed power bait (chunky cheese) caught a 4lb 5oz trout. Caught two more in the one to two pound range. Moved to just west of Stoll point and anchored up. Caught seven more in the one to two pound range. Left about three o'clock. Took a work friend and his daughter with us.

Took Labor Day off. Wanted to avoid all the people that were certainly all over the place up at the lake. I also missed all the poor drivers that made the trip for some very long. Ok I will get to it. Started out about 9:30 set out the traps, motored over to just west of Stoll mtn. Dropped anchor and tossed chunky cheese caught one within ten min. Ten feet of water temp was 60 deg moderate wind. Stayed put an hour and then moved a little ways. Nothing else for me. Not too disappointed we still have smoked fish in the fridge from last time out. Fresh fish for dinner for us. And some crayfish also. Boy have I been daydreaming about ice fishing lately.

Got out this morning. Great day sunny, calm, cool. Water was 57.7 still has alge floating around but the weeds are a lot less of a problem. Trolled quite a bit, mostly on the east end to the center. No luck. Went out west in 10 ft of water. West of Stoll mtn. And tossed out the trusty chunky cheese. Enticed a 4lb 5oz hen to have a taste. Had a blast fighting the fish for about 10-15 min on my micro light pole. The crawdads are slowing down also. Dinner was tasty and we still have one more fillet for later.
