Title: Brown trout on streamers (11/19/17 update)
Post by: TightLinesMaine on Nov 12, 2017, 06:52 PM
Good streamer bite this afternoon, hooked 4 of these guys/gals, landed 2 (a big fat hen and a smaller male).  Had a bruiser took a dive into some white caps and got me stuck on rock  ::)  Had a few short strikes as well from some big ones.

Great photos, nice looking browns, one of my favorite targets dragging a Barnes Special. Been cold lately, you can get the body bundled up but a little tough on the hands. :)

bingo on the hands, my fly line control finger is almost bloody from stripping in so line so furiously! the gloves help a little but a little bit of finger burn is unavoidable, the browns were liking a really fast & lively presentation the other day which calls for some frantic stripping.

Beautiful browns! I've always had a special place in my heart for good size brown trout in stunning colors.

What amazes me is what a challenge they can be compared to rainbows and brooks.

cold & snowy today and the fish weren't as active, flows were noticeably down by a few inches, but I put some effort in and was rewarded.  I experimented with a somewhat new presentation (one that i've had luck with at other spots recently) that was producing strikes; fast changes in direction of the streamer just sub-surface seemed to get a lot interest from a few different trout, though only hooked up once today.  Didn't see as many today as yesterday, and surprisingly I wasn't alone on the river, a few other anglers came and went.

NICE browns, Randall!  Fall wouldn't be complete without fish like that 8)

The cold snuck up on my hands on a recent tip to NY.  Nasty frostbite.

hit a window between the rain and it paid off, had several follows, went 1 for 2 w/ hookups, & landed a very nice male brown.  FAST stripping presentation was the key, I noticed they would only try to whack my flies when I sped up the presentation, not slowed it down, I guess they couldn't resist a potential meal escaping them.   8)

Thanks for the comments folks,

11/19/2017

Hit the water around noon got in a solid few hours of fishing before the wind got too crazy, hooked 2 landed 1, another nice male brown trout... no self timer pic of this one, he shot out of my net while I left him submerged in the water, sometimes it happens when I'm fumbling with my camera or what not as I always leave the fish in the water when possible.

Thanks Jim, Been a down fall for me in the salmon department so making up  for it with the browns.  They still put up a nice battle on the fly rod.
