Title: New boat
Post by: fish/hunt4ever on Apr 19, 2022, 10:57 AM
Looking at a new alumacraft trophy or tournament series boat, anyone own these ones and tell me what you like/dislike on the boat I have an alumacraft navigator that I bought new I is a side console and the wife wants a windshield to block water and wind. Just looking around and seeing what everyone thought about on a new boat. Thanks everyone.

I'm a Lund guy. I've had Lund's since the early 90's. The two things I always do now is get maximin horsepower. Check the rigging cost verse's what you can do. You can pay to have all the goodies included or add them as you go. The one thing Lund has is a sport track and over the years I've added and upgraded everything around that. I would not look at a  boat that I could not put in a new boat, but that just me. Good luck!

I bought a trophy 185 last year, ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!! Handles the big lake erie and ontario weather AMAZING!!!
Powered by  140 and 9.9 Suzuki
motors...
ONLY thing I would do different is I would go with a 175 instead of the 140...
But the 140 still pushes me around 36-38 mph...
LOVE THE ALUMARAIL system they have!! The storage I have is unreal too!!!
Cant go wrong with a trophy IMO

Slap a terova on that bad boy 👍
Thank you!!!!!
I've got one on it!!!! I put the quick disconnect on it so the cover will fit nice and snug!!!!
Literally set the motor on the plate and slide the pin through it and you're all set...
Rigged with a helix 9 for graph and a helix 7 strictly dedicated to mapping

I have been leaning towards the trophy 205 with a 200 on it. I want the i-pilot as well and have a helix 7 already but thinking of adding another one in the dash. Also looking at a 9.9 kicker motor and might see if they can put charging cables from the starter battery to the trolling batteries so that I can charge while using the gas powered motors. I have seen the alumatract and like all the options that you can do with it and the nice thing is no screwing holes everywhere to find the perfect spot for rod holders and others. Just want more room behind the windshield compared to the competitor model I do not cast off the deck much so do another of trolling and spend more time in the back of the boat with the minnkota steering the boat with or without the kicker motor. Thanks for all the replies love the input.

A 205 is a BIG BOAT!!!! LOOOOOOOTS OF ROOM!!!!!! and if you do go with the 205, do yourself a favor and definitely get a 101 thrust bow mount!!!!
I put an 80lb on mine and it works harder than it needs to!!!
Also do yourself a favor and put 1 7 In the dash and one up on the console(I've got a 9 up top) .. I'm hopeful to hit the water sunday... I'll take pics of my set up..
I also opted to install an itroll instead of seperate controls for the kicker along with a tie bar for steering
Title: Re: New boat
Post by: fish/hunt4ever on Apr 19, 2022, 08:38 PM
Cool will look for the pictures later, have to look into the bigger minnkota as recommended is an 80 but if I troll just with the bow mount I usually only go .8 to 1 and any faster use the kicker with the bow mount to steer the boat and have the kicker locked in place by a bungee just so if we get snagged can kill the bow mount and back up with the kicker by releasing the bungee, I only have a 55 lb ipilot on my 175 navigator and it works good for what I am doing with it but always like the input.

Made it out today for some lake erie perch..
Here is my dash set up

When I installed the helix 9 on the dash... I made sure I left room for a 2nd one right beside it... that will probably be installed next spring

Nice, how was the perch fishing? Looks like enough room, the helix 7 must be the lower unit in the console there, I can see why you want one up there as well as easier to see when around the boat while fishing.

Perching was slow for us... I bounced around the lake 6 different spots...
We ended up only with 18... one guy i talked to yesterday out there said he got 100 in 3 hours in the one spot we were at..
But they had lockjaw for us sunday....
There is plenty of room for another 9 up top.. i just have to move the angle of the arm on ram mount and itll shift the current 9 to the left enough to fit one beside it...
That 7 is in the dash where they have an alumacraft plate... that comes right out

Some of the finders I see on some of the bass boats look like you could use them as some of the TV's we had a few years ago, I love the idea of that big but might get in the way of seeing the other boaters on the water and might have to just mount that on the front of the boat with a heavy duty bracket so the wind could not move it around.

Well now looking for an alumacraft dealer in wyoming that can order boats in, might have to go out of state again to get a boat, hate that.

Post by: Dorado on Jul 06, 2022, 10:30 AM
I would keep an eye on KSL or other sites for gently used boats.  There are starting to be some reasonable deals after the craziness of the past couple years!

I just bought a 2013 Ranger Reata 1850 LS with 32 hours on the 150 hp Verado.  It needs a kicker and electronics upgrades, but will be less than $40 k when it is all set up and is a basically new boat!

Post by: fish/hunt4ever on Jul 18, 2022, 06:47 PM
Well it sounds like there are not going to be any dealers for alumacraft in wyoming the guy at extreme will not get back to me and the sales manager will not just sell me a boat or talk about a dealership or anything just said have to go through a dealer. But did give me a place in South Dakota that gave me a quick answer and might be able to get a boat after all. The dealer in Salt Lake priced the boat ten thousand over msrp without all the options I talked about and the sales manager over this region said with the shortages they can do that, sounds like price gouging to me. And then that dealership just said take what is on the floor or nothing. Hate dealing with some of the dealerships out there with anything. Crazy how this stuff goes. Thought about KSL but really want the boat I have my eye on with all the options I want.

I LOVE my alumacraft!!!!!!
I had a couple issues and they stood behind everything and replaced/fix the issues...
I certainly would buy another one

Love mine as well that is why I am going through all the options and heart ache to find and buy the one I want. Just makes me mad how sometimes people make it so hard to deal with them. I have had my alumacraft since 2007 and it still works like the day I brought it home, just a few more scratches and fish slime/guts in it too. Been a fantastic boat for the family.

I owned a 89 alumacraft 196 and loved it.  Bayliner owns trophy and has a horrible reputation outside of aluminum boats.

Second the 112 terrova. About to adopt the 87" for my big boat.

Nice job!!!

Look into a LiFePo4 battery for the Minn Kota.  I went with a 200ah, but 100ah will work just fine.  Trust me on this suggestion.  Do the research.  The price is high, but the return is quick and huge.

Enjoy your new rig.
Again, good job!!!

SOOOOO MUCH ROOM!!! Mine has enough room for me with the 185.. the 195 is soooooooooo roomy!!!

Thought about the 205 but seen the few differences in storage and that made my mind up on just sticking with the 195. Now for the wait for it to arrive, which is fine with me, hopefully the fuel prices are down when I have to go pick it up and fuel it up. But have some time to save up as well.

There is soooooo much storage in them...
My 185 has compartments and storage EVERYWHERE!!!!!
THEY LITERALLY THOUGHT THE STORAGE ASPECT THROUGH 100%
I bought some cargo nets to put up front on bow on inside of gunnel wall...
I've got a 140 on it.. might trade the 140 in for a 175 (if I can put that big on my boat)

I think the max horsepower on the 185 or 195 is 200 hp, the 205 was 300, do not see where another foot adds 100 hp for the max. I believe on most the computers you can have them adjusted to a different hp, a buddy I have his dad changed his 150 to a 175, just have to have the programmer to do I believe. Might check it out and safe some dollars if it works.

I am pretty sure there is more to it than just a chip upgrade.  There are usually some intake differences as well to allow more air/fuel in the mixture to increase the HP...

On the small outboards, it is pretty much plug and play (but you do have to change the intake parts).  Bigger motors require more parts swaps...

I figured there was a little more to it but heard that mercury makes there engines for a range and then just set the computer to that horse power but been looking at some YouTube videos trying to find one that explains all of it better but got off on Matt's off road recovery recently and watch that when I am watching along with pigpatrol and Tom Boley and Eastman hunting and and and just so many things to take away and learn.

Post by: Dorado on Jul 26, 2022, 08:27 AM
I had the same thought.  My new boat has a mercury Verado 150, which is basically the same motor as the 175 and 200.  A bit of online searching, and the consensus was that while the base configuration was the same, the manifold, electrical sensors, and the chip board would need to be changed.  Overall there is no cost savings because the parts ain’t cheap!

All the joys of owning a boat, just looked and the 185 trophy max hp is 175 the 195 trophy max hp is 200 and the 205 trophy is 300 hp max, cannot believe that another foot adds 100 hp for max with not a lot more to the boat. Cannot wait to get my new one, well I can so I can save up some more money.

Well drained the oil out of the boat motors and set it up for the winter, now to see if I get the new one before the ice comes off and get it set up for fishing or put oil in the motors and use this one for awhile before the new one arrives. So we will see what the spring will bring for the boat another time on the water with me or someone else.  I know there is still time to get out just not too motivated to fish right now until the hard deck gets on the lakes, might chase some pheasants around between now and then.
Title: Re: New boat
Post by: Dorado on Nov 07, 2022, 01:11 PM
Yeah, I planned on doing some more fishing from the boat before the ice season. But the forecast looks pretty cold for the next week, and I am going to be too busy to go until after Thanksgiving!  Going to have to clear all the snow off this weekend and move the boat into the shop for the winter.

When I was elk hunting it was boating weather, then I killed my elk when it was 65 degrees out, and the cold moved in!  At least got in a couple trips to ND for pheasants...Hard to believe but ice fishing season is just around the corner :)

Was hoping to get the boat out at least one more time.  However, with highs in the upper 20's and low 30's and lows below zero to teens for at least the next 7 days, I might have to store it for the winter.

Well boat is put away and the minnow tank is set up and first box of minnows put in, might have to get another one as I lost a few in this box but with the colder Temps should not be long before we are on the hard deck fishing and closer to the soft water and new boat getting set up. Have a great hard water season when I get the new boat will post set up pictures and hopefully see some out on the water next season.

Well the new boat is built and they are waiting on the big motor as mercury does not have the 175 I want right now, but the dealership has one in a crate that goes to one of the other boats but will install that one for me if my motor does not arrive by March when I want it shipped out so I can grab it at the end of March first of April. Getting closer, but still looking at icefishing for a bit longer.

Well the boat hit the dealership but still waiting on the big motor. Snowing side ways at home and 70 degrees in Oklahoma. Going to be around 20 below for a low on Wednesday night. Understand when the Temps start falling below freezing, I am always thinking of that come fall time and usually drain all the oils before I really need to just because of the freezing and not wanting to break anything.

Got this from the dealer yesterday, getting closer. Supposed to have more pictures of it prepped with the motors and all, maybe later today, but most likely later next week. Just a small miscommunication on when the time I wanted to pick it up but now I know I will have it by ice off.

Might have to take it over on the east side of the state for the maiden voyage if the lakes around me do not open fast enough.  Oh well I guess I can just cut a hole at one of the boat ramps and dunk it in here in a couple weeks just to say I had it in the water and sit in it watching tip ups fly.

Keep us posted. I look forward to the pics.

It's been so long since we've had ice this winter (just briefly) I can't imagine still having in ice on the lakes around here.

The lakes around Pinedale and Jackson are not going to thaw until mid-May.  You better like winter activities if your gonna live here!

Well drove through some rain, hail, some big snow squalls. So seen about every spring weather pattern. By keyhole it was 47 degrees and the snow was going fast by all the road ways once we hit capser to the south dakota border. Running water down the right aways and most the draws. 51 degrees in rapid south dakota so short sleeve weather here tonight. Get to see the boat in person tomorrow and take it home to get ready for the open water when it arrives.

Is that the Cabelas in Sidney, NE?
Way back, when I drove semi for a year between jobs, I stopped there to check things out.

No it is cabelas in rapid south dakota. My first boat was bought from the cabelas in Sydney, since bass pro bought them they no longer sell alumacraft boats. I bought this one from rice Motorsports very nice guys and great to deal with.

Sounds like the old Alumacraft navigator is sold.  Makes it nice to open the shop up again.

Well when putting the boat in the shop noticed I would need to increase the height and just spent more money to get the extra panel and track. Now to wait for them to come in and get that project done. Ordered a alternator charger so once the starting battery is fully charged will charge the trolling motor batteries. Got a transom saver coming for each motor, trying a new style that I have never used as they just go on the ram. Will report how they work. Still need to mount the fishfinder, but still a few weeks out for open water.

Got these ones to try and see how they work. Easier to store than the long rods and such. Should be here Wednesday to see how they attach.

These will work fine.
I have used blocks similar to these on my I/O boats with success.

Mine were not the same as yours.
They were tubes that snapped over the trim cylinder rods.
Same principle though.
Took the load off the cylinders to keep them from leaking when driving down the road with the lower unit bouncing up and down.
A small block of wood will do the same thing.
Good luck.

Got the alternator charger installed and wires ran for the fish finder. Just need to drill the hole for the wires to come up through the dash and install the ram mount. Getting closer to be ready for when the ice leaves.

Big Horn reservoir is ice-free if you are looking for open water to try out your new boat.

Maiden voyage and got about an hour and a half on the big motor while playing and mapping. Got about 4 hours on the new I pilot. And even got some fish slim in the boat.
