Title: Fly tying vise
Post by: icefisher47 on Dec 09, 2022, 03:45 PM
I recently got a fly tying kit from Orvis. Unfortunately due to some medical issues haven’t been able to use it. It came with a clamp vise that doesn’t fit on my kitchen table. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions.

To repurpose the vise you have, or a new vise?

Sorry to hear about your health issues. Hope your much better.

some times you can clamp your vise to a big cutting board and use that on the table.

Icefisher, a friend of mine uses quick clamps with a finished piece of 3/4” oak plywood that I finished for him. The oak plywood was 16” x 24” he clamped the plywood to the underside of his table, then mounted his vice to it. The plywood made for a nice little bench for him. We cut the extra clamp arms off a bit longer than he needed to have adjustment to clamp. Also, so his legs didn’t hit them. Just an idea for you.

I should have posted a picture to explain about the table.

Ya know, it doesn’t have to be anchored to the center of the earth to work. Maybe there’s another place you can tie without marring up the kitchen table and getting feathers all over the place. (Happy Wife theory)

Just a thought.

Like I said, I’d be more than happy to make something you can use.

Im thinking a riser on the back of the bench board, the depth/height of the trim piece under the table top. Pushing the bench back a bit will allow for clamping. So the bench board doesn’t tip.
