For what it’s worth I run 12-15’ of leader ,

For what it’s worth I run 12-15’ of leader ,
I run 2 arm pulls, about 8-12'
So I'm similar.
I used to run almost 50', then shortened it to 25'.
I never saw a difference between 8-12 or 25' of leader.
I typically would run a premium 12-15# floro but I was on Erie where the eyes are typically larger, and you get an occasional steelhead.
I think you could easily get away with 10-12# floro on Onieda

Eyes aren’t line shy on Oneida and don’t count out jigging for them it can be a hoot
I also do pretty well trolling spoons off lead
Keep an eye on the thread as there will be info from guys that are fishing Oneida

The jigging part of Oneida eye fishing is alot of fun. I’m not a trolling guy, can’t help you there.
-
Never trolled Oneida. But if I did I would not only run leadcore but bottom bouncers with worm harnesses.
-
Skinny your right worm harnesses take their share of eyes , lots of methods work on Oneida , the more methods you know the better your odds of catching but my preference is to jig , raps , blade baits , and buck tails

Ben yankin lead core for over 40 years My favorite is 18lb with a 30' 8lb leader I put just a snap at the end and a small barrel swivel up about 4-5 ft If your not tapping the bottom now and then your not close enough With the 5' leader on the end you can change that out occasionally because off the nicks on the bottom and not have to change the whole leader I find the Onieda bottom to be very abrasive on those leaders not so much in other lakes with soft bottom
You're gonna love it with a normally slow trolling speed and a floating rapala or similar lure you'll go down about 6' per color

Thanks to all for the great info. I have always been a bucktail jig and
blade bait fisherman on oneida in spring, in the summer moved to worm harness
but always see my fish suspended in late july to august and going to
give leadcore crankbait a try. thanks again for all info you guys and gals
who live up there are so lucky to have such a awesome fishery
I hope you all know it . enjoy

Leadcore is typically 5’ a color

X2 what Mac said , don’t be afraid to try those suspended fish not all biters are near the bottom ,let your graph be your guide , we also run boards with snap weights and you can run extra lures off those if you wish
that jig bite never ends just need to change presentation and locations 😉
Good luck

I ran lead core for the first time last season a couple of times and did ok. Small spoons and floating sticks were a hit with the shorts but didn’t land a single keeper eye on Oneida last year. I ran a 20’ length of 15# big game to a swivel with 6’ of 10# fluoro. I also will add that every time I went out last year I had a stiff east wind that made boat speed and control difficult.

Sticks are typically good for early season, or at night.
Try meat harnesses after the 4th and later for better eye results typically.
Sometimes the spinner flash does the trick. And the crawler’s scent helps too!
We have also used leaches on harnesses for eyes with great results. The smallies love them too!
