Caroga Lakes
« on: Jun 04, 2014, 02:05 PM »
Planning on fishing these lakes over the summer, since I will be in the area. My friend has told me they are good bass fishing. I was just wondering how the panfishing is? Any crappies or bluegills in the lakes? And also how is the splake fishing? Never have had the chance to catch one of them. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Can't help you out O.A., never been there.
Here's a DEC link tough:

Maybe this will help get things going here?  :-\

I do see they have a "General" Store there, probably won't find anything specific though.   :D

Never mind. Picked up a Spider Rybaak book on eastern New York and it told me everything I needed to know.

I rented a cottage on West Caroga Lake last week.  Did some fishing in a kayak.  I didn’t have a lot of luck, caught a number of bass and perch.  Windy every day, which made fishing in the kayak challenging.  I saw a few guys with trolling motors mounted to canoes trolling back and forth across the lake but didn’t get a chance to talk to them.  Anyone else fish here?  What’s the secret, especially for catching Splake.  Beautiful place!
