Trolling motor question?
« on: Oct 22, 2022, 01:51 PM »
I have a 2007 lund 1600 explorer. Was wondering anyone have a similar boat and if so
what shaft length do you have on your trolling motor and what trolling motor are you using?

I had a 2013 Lund Rebel XL 1650
I had a 24 VDC Minn Kota 80# Terrova with a 60” shaft.  I fished in Lake Erie and didn’t want the motor “popping” out of the water in the rough stuff.
Hope that helps.

Go with the longest shaft available... you can always lock it up higher if you dont want it as deep as itll drop down

Longest is 87" and it'll fit my 23'er I dont think he'll want a shaft that long on a 16?

Yea, always better to have enough so it doesn’t pop out of the water, but too much simply makes things more difficult.  Especially deploy and stow.  The guy has a 16’ boat.  Only needs a 60” shaft.  My Lund 1650 had a 60” shaft and I fished in 3-4’s a few times and don’t ever remember the prop popping out of the water.

I had a 72” shaft on my 21’ Trophy and it rarely popped out.  A buddy of mine had an 18.5’ aluminum with a 60” shaft and if we fished in anything more than 2’s it would occasionally pop out.  A 72 would have been better on this boat.
