My wife inhereted this great little fishing boat 2 years ago and we finally are getting around to restoring it a little bit. It was left out in the elements for over 10 years so none of the wood was good enough to reuse. just thought I would start sharing the process

The unsinkable legend!! I had a 19' Dauntless for a few years in Maine with a 60hp Etec. What a great boat, enjoy!
-
yeah we have a blast with it. even has the original 40 HP big twin on it. I believe this is a 17 Nauset

I don’t much care for Whalers.
But please understand that I do appreciate their toughness and also the fact that millions of other people cannot be wrong.
Please keep sharing because I am a fan of boats in general and can also appreciate the pleasure and personal satisfaction from working on them.
Thanks for sharing!!

Its deffinitely a type of boat my wife and i wouldve never sought after, but because of the family sentimental value of it and being able to redo it in honor of her grandpa has made it really grow on us

Nice start on the restore whalers are unsinkable, keep pics coming.

Finished refinishing the outside of the boat, 2x rubbing compound with 8" buffer wheel, 2x polish compound, finished off with a nice wax finish, and some brand new stickers. Pics to come when can get home and get some good ones taken. Now my trailer needs a nice "pick-me-up"

Very nice work. It’ll be a special pleasure each time you motor down the lake.

Just a cleaning tip: Mr. Clean magic erasers work great on the bumber plastics/rubber

maybe in a few years I would like to take it down past the gel coat and really get into it, but the spider cracks in the gel coat dont quite bother me bad enough yet
-
That’s an awesome job on an awesome boat. 👍👍

That looks great! Just a note, be careful with Magic Erasers on anything painted. I found that out the hard way.
