Title: snap swivel and jigs
Post by: Spikehorn11 on May 08, 2007, 07:00 PM
Should I tie them directly on or can use use a snap swivel? I use buck tails and jig heads with a minnow.

Jig's are one of the few things that I tie directly to my line. I mostly use a leader and just a swivel if twisting is a concern. Other than that I use a fast snap for all other lures.

I tie direct mostly because its easier to retie a couple feet shorter every now and then 'cause of line abrasion. When you tie direct be sure the eye is clean and smooth.

hey spikehorn next year when you grow more horn maybe you can answer such a question
its your preference, try both then come back and tell us what u think
i never use a swivel on a jig  there is no reason for a jig to tangle up to were it would effect your line twisting
i would like to know how one would have to jig in order for it to really bother your line

Reel....there are all kinds of jigs that if you tie them on you will have one hell of a twist in your line....have you ever used a Buzz Bomb?  Or have you jigged a heavy spoon?  These will definately benefit from a snap swivel....

I think that it really depends on the type of jig...bouncers probably don't need one, and jigs that flutter/spin should probably have at least a swivel....

Good Fishing!

depends on jig, bucktails and grubs i tie direct or even run a heavy leader if i'm tossing in heavy cover i have found with some plastics such as fin fish the swivel can help if i'm swiming the jig and not boucing,in current the swivel adds action watch it!!!! so heres a case of you playing around and see what happens good luck my friend,if your asking questions your on your way!

Loop knot is AKA Rapala knot.  The link below will demonstrate how to tie the rapala knot and other knots as well.

When casting I tie directly to the jig. If I'm vertical jigging I'll tie a ball bearing swivel up the line about 2' or so, then take the leader and tie direct to the jig.

I like the duolock snaps. I find that if the line twists, it will still twist with a swivel.

I mostly tie direct to the jig.  However if I'm slip bobbering, I like to switch up to the snap swivel on the jigs.  It makes it dance a little better.
