31 inches.... it maxed out my 8 pound scale so I'm not sure how much it weighed. We estimated it at 13-15 pounds.

Had a pretty good day on the Yellowstone this Saturday. We (well mostly my cousin and buddy) picked up quite a few smallmouth and managed to boat large mouth, catfish, goldeyes, carp, drum, and a bonus sauger in addition. Here's a few pics.
My cousin with a nice smallie.

Not pictures from Montana, but I thought they were worth sharing nevertheless.
I was down in Colombia on a biz trip the last couple weeks and and got out for a little fishing.
Caught this nice, 65 inch wahoo and the one pictured below. Also caught some yellowfin tuna. Interesting country with very nice people.
Hope to add to the gallery with some walleyes from Holter and Canyon Ferry soon!

We tried below Morony dam by Great falls this weekend for cats but just caught a brown. I have never caught a catfish and am looking for a place to go.
Thanks

Spent the day on the Mo Tuesday, water was ok to wade but not as many BWO's as I'd hoped. Caught and released this spawned out bow on a black bunny leech and she danced for me for 10 min. before I could get her out of the heavy current.(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi240.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff9%2Fsmashndash_photo%2Fmissouribow5-20-08.jpg%3Ft%3D1211492149&hash=b3f246b233754d2a19281389de3ee798)

Very Nice! My guess from looking at it is that it was a female and getting gravid..? Where did you catch it?
Good Fishing!

Caught that one on Salmon Lake. Wish we could have caught more but it was cold and raining. Not sure when we cleaned it there was nothing much inside at all even the stomach was pretty darn empty.

Beautiful color on that brown there Trapper
-
I was fond of the color as well. If he would have been 22" I would have put him on the wall. As is, I am thinking of having my buddy do a reproduction of the fish after he finishes my pike.

You getting that pike done that you posted on the shanty? Should get it done looking like it's chasing the the trout.
-
Yes I am. She wasn't the hog that yours was (only 37" and about 13 or so pounds) but my buddy was looking for an opportunity to fine tune his pike skills so I am actually getting it done for free:) She won't be chasing that trout, but she will be chasing a 12" perch I caught back in January...
-
Just looked at pics some real nice pics. Some real nice fish out west too.

nice fish mike be carfull flashing that rappala around creag erea i here them fly guys get really mean down there ;D ;D
-
Good thing I'm a big guy:) They are just jealous because I catch all the big ones:)
-
LOL............boy do I have stories of fly fishermen vs. hardware fishermen wars at the Craig Bar......Oh the memories of being younger and drunker........
-
My Dad's two buddies who are brothers fish the Madison a ton. They have actually gone fist to cuff with 2 fly fishermen on the Madison. One fly fisherman told the younger one he was in his hole and told him he needed to move out or suffer the consequences. Our buddy told him to take a hike and the guy swung at him... he regretted it later when he was unconscious on the bank after a return punch that knocked him out cold quicker than a guy could blink. This guy is a retired Olympic weight lifter weighing in about 235lbs... I never have gotten it... fishin is fishin to me. I enjoy both methods and have never felt that one was higher than the other... guess I need to get with the program and chose a side huh ;) ::)
-
you allready chose a side by the looks of that lure down there more power to ya i say catch some of those walleye down there and they will be buying you beers before you know it ;D ;D
-
In my past life I was a cd-7 rapala... I was born a spinman, I'll die one too ;D
-
you ever get into the eyes down there i know theres a couple of deep holes just wondering if its worth looking for them down there
-
Never have up that far but they are there. I never have spent much time trying either. I usually get my eyes down stream from Great Falls.
-
And I have to get with you about that Trapper. My neighbor is elderly and one slip away from being handicapped. Would love to know if there is a place on the river that is easily accessible that holds eyes. He's a Michigan native and loves to walleye fish. We take the boat and he's in it, but would like to have a couple of options closer to town. PM me iffin you're feeling generous with info. If not, I totally understand that too.
-
Finally broke the fly rod out and braved the rain for a couple hours today..

nice pic love the fenwick ;D ;D
Thanks Aaron..most of the "pure" fly crowd consider my set-up low budget, but it's made in the good ole USA, and it gets the job done. Hard to beat those Cabela's combos for the money.

Another young one hooked on fishing. This is her first fish!

(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi2.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy27%2FAndyTheCornbread%2F7lbPike.jpg&hash=437be02c0f16226fec2dc87221128925)
Caught a 3 - 4lb pike on the Flathead river last night but the pics are on my wife's camera so I don't have them yet. Pike bite seems rather slow right now. I have been fishing from around 5pm until near dark which is 3.5 to 4 hours of fishing and have been averaging about a pike a night each time. I wonder if all the jet skiers put them off their bite? I know they annoy the heck out of me when I am trying to fish but I suppose they have to have their fun too.

One of hundreds caught this summer, not all this nice though

Nice fish Jim!

Here's a few pics from Peck a few weeks ago.
My son tempting fate! Fortunately pike don't survive warm livewells for long. Caught the pike throwing spoons over submerged trees. This is where superlines pay off as once you got bit you had to reel like those bassmaster pro's you see on TV or the fish would dive for the safety of the trees below! Due to this we lost a quite a few large pike but still managed to get these 5-9 lb fish in the boat.

This 10 lb mac had an FWP tag. Just got the history of the fish back and thought it was interesting so I'll share. It was tagged on 11/8/2006 off the face of the dam and was 26.9 inches and 6.6 lbs. It was 10.4 lbs when we caught it end of August near Haxby Point and approximately 30" (didn't put a tape on it, just guessing). FWP estimates its age at 15 years. Makes me wonder how old a 20 lb lake trout is?!
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi783.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fyy114%2FOUTHNTN%2F10LBRWFWPTAG.jpg&hash=080a973c47880770db97fac570d02437)
My son getting some help reeling in a sub 10 lb mac! I was holding the pole with my left hand as he reeled and snapped this pic with my cell phone and free hand. It took 3 pics to get one good photo before quickly netting and releasing. Amazing enough the fish dove straight down so hopefully it survived. You can see the fish in the water near the end of the net

Nice pike and macs!
-
That was a calm day on Peck!!! You gotta love those...I've only fished it when its been slightly windy and REALLY windy!
-
I really hate this "between" season, no ice, wind, mud. So I was bored and put together a slide show of one of my cousins and I on a trip last summer, with music. C'mon summer!

Montanta fishing look incredible
-
I've fished Maine and I've fished Montana. Loved both, but for interior fishing Montana takes it......However.......the Maine coast is awesome and we are no where near a coast here.....:)
-
Well let's see.....I can be to Rock Creek Marina on Fort Peck in 8 hours and I can be to Lincoln City, OR in 10 hours......the coast ain't that far off.... ;D
-
Well, when you put it like that.........lol.......you're right. When I was in Maine I was at the furthest northern point, so even the coast there was hours away.....:)
-
Bow right around 24" in spawning colors near Helena. Fishing all by my lonesome and didn't get a picture of the larger fish, easily 25-26, so no proof, but it DID happen!

Beautiful.........just beautiful.....
-
This one's not a fish, but I snapped it while fishing. Was walking down the bank when I noticed fresh blood on the rocks. Looked around a bit and there was this fella munching on a northern water vole that he'd just killed. My buddy and I watched him for about 20 minutes while he ate 'em. Started at the head and peeled the vole down just like a sock! I worked as a crew leader on a small mammal project, and we'd see some pretty messed up stuff when two critters were in the same trap. But this was the first time that I actually got to watch it.

I learn something new every day. Had no idea Alvin was a carnivore......
Most small mammals will kill and eat other small mammals. I have seen many instances where a deer mouse ate a vole, vole ate a vole, or a mouse ate a mouse.

Nice pike!
I'm stuck over here in Oregon because I didn't get enough of my boys spring break to be able to make it home to Montana and back with them. So we have been perch fishing over here because almost nobody in Oregon perch fishes so where you find them they tend to be of good size. Here are twelve we caught in about an hour and a half last night:
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi2.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy27%2FAndyTheCornbread%2FBoys_Spring_Break_2012017.jpg&hash=067f4152ff34c9921b332d16390f01f1)

We got another six big ones last night after work again and today I am finally headed back to Montana, can't wait to be home!

Very nice!

31 inches, 12 lbs
31 inches and 12 lbs? :D ::)
-
31 inches and 12 lbs?
My son caught one up on Smith lake two years ago that was 30" and 10lbs. We checked it on three different scales. I don't think 31" and 12lbs is unreasonable.
-
31 inches and 12 lbs? :D ::)
I probably should have deducted a pound for the 13" whitefish I found in it's belly, but it weighed what it weighed, thanks for the input!
-
Better than any of the three pike I've caught, so since I'm jealous...12lbs?
-
DREAM pike, AWESOME!

Im not trying to start anything but considering the fact the average pike we catch on the st lawrence that is 31-32 inches is around 7-8 lbs. And these are healthy fish that always have a belly on them and even durring the pre spawn when they are full of eggs Ive still never seen a 31-32" fish excede 9 lbs. And by the picture you have provided that fish does not have the girth to be 12 lbs. Im not seeing a 31" pike being 12 lbs. I can see 10 lbs but that is a really fat fish.
This is a 34 incher that was caught on a local pond and it weighed 9 3/4 lbs. 2 inches longer than the your fish yet 2 1/2 lbs lighter. This was also durring early march. When the fish are full of eggs up here in Northern NY.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1239.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff512%2FGyleD%2F0116011410a-1.jpg&hash=0ff87c0459fa7a71b3c69d00a989b7cc)
This was a 32" pike that was only 7 1/2. And as you can see its not a unhealthy skinny fish.
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1239.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff512%2FGyleD%2Fdownsized_0205011255-1.jpg&hash=81266143e5384d63c82957321b76d962)
An average 31" pike that was caught durring the middle of the summer and it was still less than 8 but we never weighed it.

Those fish are snakes man, not thick at all. Did you swirl out your own face or are you posting pictures of other people's fish?

What he said.
Here is a pic of the fatties we get out here, this one was 10lbs @ 30", checked on three scales because I didn't believe a 30" pike could go 10lbs at first:
(https://www.myfishfinder.com/fishing_forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi2.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy27%2FAndyTheCornbread%2FPike.jpg&hash=73f6e4956f38fd16dcab7f4fbce3b3a9)
-
That there is a pig....
-
I guess MT must grow 'em bigger!! Oh wait, MT grows everything BIGGER 8) 8)
Father-in-law pulled in a 14.5# 34" pike this winter from Peck and it wasn't overly huge in the belly, so it's very possible a 30" pike could go over 10#. I think Cornbread's pic confirms that :thumbup_smilie: Nice fish and pics everyone! Good fishin' - OH
-
Some of our lakes are incredibly fertile (Noxon comes to mind) and some of those fish seem like they are as big around as they are long. Fish from lone pine res just 60 or 70 miles away are snakey and rarely get over 4-5lbs. Each system has different potential, and we happen to have a few lakes (and rivers, see flathead and clark fork) that produce fish that resemble a bowling ball more than a hammerhandle. It's the girth that counts (where have I heard that before;).
-
 You guys are awful sensitive. I'm just saying thats not 12 lbs. And it's the truth. Have fun getting all emotional over the Internet. :'( ::) Oh and as far as New York goes and big fish. Look up the Bob Walters Muskie. Or the Dale McNair muskie that's was caught on out of the Canadian side of the St. Lawrence. It's not NY but it's awful close. Were not strangers to big pike and muskie here. As far as the swirls go there family and friends and I wasn't about to post there faces on a forum like this. Have fun guys it's sure been fun but I can't handle guys acting like a couple gulable teenage hormonal boys and loosing it on Internet over a simple statement. Take it easy if you can... :P
I can't handle this childish behavior.

I can believe that. But when his fish gains 1 inch and 2 lbs I don't know about that. Plus there's the fact yours looks twice the size of streamsides.

Whatever.......... I think its an awfully nice fish, Big Montana Pike. Nice Catch!

Upper Holter rainbow caught a half mile dowstream from the Gates. On the way to the lake we had a catastrofic trailer issue that had left us crippled/stranded. A string of very fortunate events folled and got our trailer back together with enough day to still go fishing. Ended up with 3 small eyes and this big ole gal. Biggest bow to date and with all things considerd it's coined " The Redemtion Trout".

Good lookin' crappie FIRETRAP! :thumbup_smilie:
Water looks stained. Were you on the south end?
Fished the north end recently and the water was clear almost to the slides.
Didn't think we'd have those issues this year! - OH

Nice fish man! I like how there is still a tip-up on the soft water site as well. Any pics from the Minnesota trip?
-
OUTHNTN I have another pic that is a dead giveaway of my locale. It was close to the middle of the lake. We only caught a couple sauger that day, but we murdered the bass at Big bull elk. Dragging white or blacks jigs with leeches. The bass were with the carp. The crappie was caught on a giant shad rap while using lead core :o
-
Tjet bass have been caught as far as Columbus. Just a matter of time they'll take over everywhere.
-
That will be great to see the bass getting up that far. We've seen them above Laurel before but nothing that big.
Kyle the MN trip was good, no fishing, had familly stuff take up most of the trip but I'm working on a late summer trip before Bow Season to get a little fishing in. Hopefully will have some pics of a couple pig northerns for the boards then.

I agree! I went down a week ago Sunday and I was so frustrated by 11 AM that I left. Fished from almost sun up till then, it was brutally slow. Not what I expected this time of year as I did really well there last year around the same time.

Nice one buddy!
Jay
-
nice fish that a real hog nice pic good job
-
Some of our lakes are incredibly fertile (Noxon comes to mind) and some of those fish seem like they are as big around as they are long.
I don't even live in Montana and I concur with your Montana guys that these fish weigh as much as you say they do. Why? Because I have a friend in Montana that is also a taxidermist and he can not order a commercial manikin large enough in girth to fit the pigs you guys catch. He has to custom carve them.
-
Kind of a cool thing about that fish is earlier yesterday I went up to the huckleberry festival in trout creek and on my way back I spotted a garage sale that had fishing rods at it. I have been needing a new rod because I broke my old one and have been using a heavy trolling rod that stinks for doing a lot of casting. So I thought "well rather than wear my arm out yet again I'll go look at the garage sale". The guy had a nice medium weight 6.5' rod for sale so I bought it for a dollar. Caught the fish pictured above on it just a few hours later, its my new favorite rod, I call it "Bucky" because he cost me a buck :)
-
Where'd you pull the hog from Corny?

31 inches.... it maxed out my 8 pound scale so I'm not sure how much it weighed. We estimated it at 13-15 pounds.

-
Nice fish Lundin! Do you catch walleye at Cabinet Gorge regularly?
-
That was the first time I've ever fished the Clarkfork system. I've heard of them being in Noxon, I made the trip for smallies. I was slow trolling along and picked up a huge mark, dropped a jig to bottom and boom fish on! Tons of forage in there, ill be back for smallies and walleye specifically!

No, there's a small motel at Aitkens quick stop just down the road towards Noxon, might suite your needs better.

I can remember camping at Big Creek with my parents when I was a kid (50 some years ago). Dad called the little cutthroat "blue backs" and the bigger ones were "flat trout". Good memories in the tent.

Took a run over to fish the Snake River. First time ever fishing for Sturgeon of any kind. Ended up catching 6. The largest being 7'2". The rest were between 4' and 6'. All fish were released and lively.
Really enjoyed it. Will have to do it again.

This is the first sturgeon I ever caught. A little 4 and a half footer.
-
Nice, Very NICE!!! I sure do miss sturgeon fishing.
I used to fish the San Francisco Bay, the Sacramento River and the San Joaquin River for them.
Back then we could keep them between 42" and 72". To me they are the best eating fish! JMHO
But I would not give up living in Montana just for the fishing... Might just have to head over to the Snake :-\
-
Nice work Greg, thanks for sharing!
-
That's awesome I've only caught shovelnose sturgeon in the Yellowstone and they're tiny. Where the snake river?
-
The Snake joins the Clearwater at Lewiston. Fished quite a ways upstream from there. Not sure how long it is but it goes through Hell's Canyon. Just fantastic country over there. I had made a trade with a guide over there, a couple of custom rods for a guided trip. Turns out this guy, Nate Luther, knows his stuff when it comes to sturgeon. Another guide even admitted Nate was better at sturgeon than he was. Going to get 2-3 guys together and go again next year. Just a great day out there rain and all.

Nice............gotta love it when the fish are on and you're actually there!!..........LOL
-
I'm ready to go back, is it Friday yet?
-
Got a daughter flying in from Pa. at the end of the week. So, hoping to take her out this weekend, Saturday, then camp and fish Sunday again. Weather isn't looking too good as of now, but I'm sure it'll change between now and then......just hope it's for the better. Thinking Frances again, so we can charge the boat Saturday night. But, like it's been all year, weather will dictate what we do!
-
Where are you getting your forecast? It looks amazing to me.

Missoulafish is famous!

What's the measure stick say about that eye?? And is that a rattler or bull snake?
-
25" off a jig and leech 100 yards west of 'the spot' :)
Was a bull snake, he really seemed to like my boat.
-
Nice Walleye........!!
Your boat is just an island to a swimming snake.......lol......
-
Seeing two rattlers swimming the lake and then one near camp is the reason my wife won't go to Tiber with me anymore. Now its just a guy thing!

I haven't posted many pics this year mostly because I have been getting lazy about taking pictures before I release them so I tried to remember to take pics when I was out today. Both were caught on Ty Gy's Lures spinners with the double hook.
This one was right around 6lbs:

Gotta love them fiery red eyes!!
Were all gonna miss your reports and great pictures around the state, especially on the ice!! Are you going to hit the red river again this fall?
-
I'm going to miss taking them, I got one more outing in me though, Robbi is taking me out this weekend since I sold my boat off ;D
No Red River this fall, but I'm going to fly in with the crew I usually go with 2014.
My fingers are crossed for being back by fall 2017 for good.
-
Gotta say you're one hell if a fisherman gonna miss the posts
-
Why thank you, you could always swing over to the Alaska forums if I can figure out how to catch fish there :D
-
some harvest from the last few outings

Hey Mogi! What are you doing on my deck? Same smoker, same railing, same wood that looks like it needs staining, even the same dog bed.
Fish looks tasty though. Also nice cutt in the next pic.
Looks like you have had some good days.
Greg

Ha! You sound like a man of good taste...with a shabby deck cuz he fishes too much ;)

19.5 inch male brown out of emerald lake by sight fishing with a hopper. Was awesome to spot this guy, make the cast, see him turn around and confidently eat the hopper pattern I threw at him. :thumbup_smilie: :thumbup_smilie: :thumbup_smilie: :thumbup_smilie:

That is an AWESOME picture....
-
Regardless of how the fishing is......a trip through the Gates of the Mountains is always a pleasure!! In fact when the fishing is poor......the scenery is better because you take the time to look at it all.......... ;D That being said.........would like to know when the eyes start staging at the mouth........!

Ken,
Can you boat camp up there? As in can you put in your boat with all your camping gear and go upriver and camp along the shore somewhere?

Ken,

-Andy
Yes, there are quite a few good spots and a few somewhat developed spots as well.
-
I/m not sure of the camping regs up there but there were several camps set up . I'm thinking anywhere on BLM would be good to stay at.
Ken..........
-
You can only camp on the one side of the river. I would call it the north side, but of course that changes.....LOL. It's the left side on the way down river from the gates. We do it every year. There's some awesome camp spots along there and if it wasn't for camping up there we probably wouldn't go to Holter Lake at all.......
-
Thanks guys. I have never been there and it looks super pretty. I think maybe I will have to make that a destination this summer to go and camp there just to see it. It sounds like it would be a good time and great scenery.
-
Just PM me if I can be of any assistance Cornbread..........

Thanks FishN4Eyes..........I've gotten my share of help from these pages as well. I like to see people have successful trips, so if a piece of advice or something I may know will help.......then always glad to lend a hand.

Thanks everyone it was a blast.
Wow that's a big paddlefish, How did it fight?!
Wasn't near as tough as I was expecting but I did hook him in the bill and he rolled a couple times so it was as much steering as it was pulling.
Nice Job Rez...........Did you teach the Best Friend to use a camera??......... :o :D
I wish, I actually googled a timer for my phone and used it. Pretty proud of myself since I'm not too techy.
Way to nail em' Rez...............
Did the best friend help with the netting/landing ?? LOL..........
I wish, he just ran up and down the shore all sorts of excited and didn't know what to do. He really wasn't a fan once he got wacked in the face by the bill.
Both impressive fish rezerend. You gonna mount that 20+ lbs. cat? What a pig! :o
Na, didn't even think about it but I did get some huge fillets and a lot of cubed meat to bread and fry. I am going to try and get the bill beetle ate but we'll see, was told the smaller ones are tough to get to hold together.

33.8 pound pike that fish wildlife and parks netted while trying to tag walleye's on canyon ferry.
-
its a toad :o i cant what till i get one over 20 pounds to put on the wall
-
I think they said they got 4 over 20 pounds, 2 were over 30. all of the pike they netted were killed
-
Crazy wish they would just leave them.
-
I know! if they are so worried about pike wrecking trout fisheries then they would have to kill all the pike in the big horn river :P. They could make a lot of money if they managed it for the monster pike by guys coming from all over to catch them.......... just a thought lol
-
WOW WHAT A HOG PIG OF A PIKE NICE FISH

Pair of 20inchers I released yesterday

back to the pike i cf. now that i have calmed down a bit. i grew up on the Clark fork river down by Noxon reservoir were there has been pike before i was born that was 21 years ago and fwp has netted a monster pike out of there that would have beat the state record with out any problem and all they did was tagged it let it go back that pike was a lot older then me. then all of a sudden now that there have been people catching walleye in there they made it a big deal whats the difference in there being pike or walleye and evan both now. and the clark fork used to be a huge trout fishery but that was all lost when the dams were put in. so what makes cf so different. is it because people chase trout? do they have any idea how many people would love to chase a 20 pound pike to merely put on the wall i would and i now more then one other person that would do the same.
OKAY that was to put my opinion out. now how many of you have ever caught a pike on a fly bigger then a pound? i have and its a blast so i "think'' people should allow pike to be there not to be killed once there netted think about it pike on a fly rod thats a fish to watch some youtube videos about it see what you think and in a few years you could be doing that in stead of chasing trout and hope to get one over 24 inches
-
I would rather catch 10 trout 5-10 lbs than one 20 lb northern. I caught a 22 lb northern and its was ok but one was enough. There is only so much to eat out there and northerns eat a lot of other fish. Plus, they have a fishy taste unless eaten fresh.
What upsets me more is FWP putting that lame Arlee rainbow trout strain back in the Missouri River system. It used to be the FWP RBT strain in CF back in the 80s. I believe that is the strain that dies after 2 years, will not reproduce, and has terrible taste and texture. Not even any good smoked. FWP must be trying to attract the out-of-state-fly-rodding-catch-and-release do gooders.

ok did you eat hat 20 pounder if so that was you problem for having a ''fishy taste'' northerns don't have a fishy taste trout do just like salmon and the best ones are the small ones and you have to take the skin off and wash them in salt water

Nice fish! I'd post a few pics from Rock Creek last week but I can't seem to make it work, all it does is copy the link not the picture.
-
Bullseyez...........when in photobucket and you click on the picture you want........to the right you get a choice of links........click on the IMG link and it'll copy. Paste it here and hit post.........should work........if it doesn't......post it anyway and maybe someone can figure it out for you......
-

if you copy the direct link, then you have to click on the tiny picture icon that inserts this---->[img ][ /img] then you paste the direct link in-between the brackets. if you just copy the img link it already puts this------>[img ][ /img] into the link.

Hit up a couple mountain lakes the other day. Caught a few decent cutthroats most of which were in the 1 - 1.5 pound range. I did catch one that was about 2.5 pounds & lost one(yeah, yeah) that had to be pushing 4 pounds. Hoping to hit a few more mountain lakes before the weather starts cooling off enough to start icing them over. The hardwater will be here soon.

That's got to be the same fish in both of those pics, Spitzo, exact same markings... did you catch it twice or is it just 2 pics of the same catch with different backgrounds?

Wow.....Well, first off let me thank you for examining the pics. Hmmm.....good question. I suppose it could be the same fish, never paid much attention. I took quite a few pics that day of the several fish that I caught & only a handful of the pics were good quality images. You know.....flopping fish in one hand & smartphone camera in the other hand.....end up with blurry images more often than not. I just sent 2 of the best quality pics to my photobucket & posted them in this thread. Never stated how many fish caught or that the pics were 2 of the fish caught. Just had a wonderful day catching fish at some mountain lakes & shared a couple pics. Guess I'll pay closer attention next time to the pics I post. Don't want to raise any red flags with the picture police :police:. There's always a few people on every forum that weed their way through all the posts & then post nitpicking replies instead of just enjoying what the other members share. Unfortunately, this is the downfall of every public forum I am a member of. Take care & enjoy the rest of your summer !!

Oh no Spitzo, I think you may have misinterpreted my comment... I certainly wasn't judging or trying to put any negative connotation on your pics. I just thought it was cool if you caught the same fish twice because it looked like the same fish but 2 different locations on a lake. I couldn't care less if you posted 2 pictures of the same catch, it's a beautiful fish!

Ahhh crap.....OK, first let me apologize for my ignorantly rude reply to you. In all seriousness, I thought you were just being another one of those nitpickers that I see time & time again on every forum. Thanks for clarifying the intent of your post. As far as the pics go, like I said, it very well could be the same fish. That was almost a year ago, so I can't remember if I repositioned myself while trying to photograph any of the fish or thinking to myself that I caught the same fish. Yes, it's a beautiful fish & there are some dandy Cutthroat in that particular lake. It sits at about 8600 feet in elevation & is full of fresh water shrimp. I actually caught a seven pounder out of there 20 - 25 years ago. On a brighter note, another month n' a half or so & it'll be time to head up there. I usually make a couple trips there between the last week of September & the 2nd week of October. Some years I'll even venture up there after first snow. Heck, one year I was fishing it on Halloween day - LOL !! Where you located lakedweller?? If you have ATV, you're more than welcome to join me on a trip. Take care !!

No worries at all, that's certainly the limitation of these forums, texts, etc these days... without seeing/hearing someone's expressions, things can certainly be interpreted different ways. & I know there are those people that like to stir the pot or get too serious about this stuff & that does get old. Sounds like that nice little mountain retreat has sure treated you well for many years, gotta love that! Happy fishin :thumbup_smilie:

I would sure like to know how to post pics. I have one or two I'd like to share.
-
go to a picture upload site like http://tinypic.com/ (http://tinypic.com/) then use the insert image button when posting i think tinypic.com even does that already to copy paste in post.

That's a mess of whitefish!!!! Great job!!!!!
-
Wow! I just looked through all 37 pages and I'm excited and anxious to try catching all those incredible species. Some I recognised some I didn't. It appears that I have some learning coming up. I did notice some nice small & largemouth bass but not a bunch. I've trout/salmon fished growing up and a little pike fishing too. I mainly bass fish now, year round. I'm curious what the average big bass would be for the flathead region to say Whitefish. Here in Mass, I get them regularly at 5-7 lbs, with a pb à 9lbs 1 oz. After seeing all those pictures, I don't think I'll be just bass fishing anymore! Really looking forward to making Montana my new home. Hope to meet some of you great anglers on the near future. Until then, have a fantastic day! 🎣
Keith

I can't speak for the average big bass, but they grow pretty slow up here. I believe both state records are in the 8lbs range. You could probably find some tournament stats from the area.
-
a 7 pound bass will be a big one and few and far between. A 7 pound fish will be WELL over 20 years old:)
