Title: Low bounce or high bounce wedges?
Post by: Buckski on Mar 28, 2006, 03:39 PM
Was looking for some new wedges I have a 52, 54 and 56.
Looking to get a new 54 and a 58 degree wedge.
My sand wedge has low bounce, I like them that way. What really is the ideal behind this except how the club comes thru the contact point at ground level?
I will be looking for some cleveland wedges and have several on e-bay that appealed to me.
More bounce better distance? less more elevation?
Some feedback would be great!

Buckski, I have all Vokey wedges, 52, 55, and 59. They are all low bounce. I've tried both high and low and don't think unless your a pro that they make any difference. JMO I do know that Cleveland does make good wedges though.

I would have to agree that we amatuers don't need to worry too much about the bounce in the wedges. Just my .02 though ;D

I don't know bout no darn bounce but I can fluff em up there all day long from the cabbage with my trusty old Hogan Special 60 Lobmonster.   ;D  Put em high and soft and nice and tight to the pin all day long from 30 yards out.   ;)  Now from a tight lie forget it.  That sucker digs right in cause it's got no bounce like my Ping I-3 60 degree which is great off the short stuff but not as good as the ole Hogan from the cabbage :P

Bob your kinda right, i have a 52 and 54 with good bounce my 56 has little or none.
Don't give the pros that much credit, they still have to hit em just like us. Some clubs are designed for specific purposes and I believe there is more to it than just whacking it.
Out of the sand a club with less bounce allows you to ge under the ball and take some sand.
Ever hit a high bounce club off hard pan? rather hit my sand wedge for a cleaner pick and maybe a little action on the ball.

Well you know golf gets boring if you keep knocking it on the green all the time in 2 strokes on the par 4's so I like to make it harder and miss it intentionally by 30 yards or so and then force myself to chip it close to save par ::)

Hey, if you don't practice those shots..... sooner or later, during a tournament or something, hell will freeze over and you may not be on in regulation. What would you do then if you don't force yourself to miss so you can practice now & again??? ;) ;)
