Or slow trolling repalas over open water, is working good in the fall.  ;)

I mostly fish crappies with a panfish bobber and minnow setup.  Anyone have any tips of things to use for a hook..I usually just use regular eagle claw hooks but was wondering if some of the icefishing marmooska's or forage minnow with the minnie on would be more affective?

Dan
Oh Lord,
There he is.
Feels like a big one.
Please don’t let me lose him.
I’ve never caught one this big before.
I’ll try not to horse him.
And if I land him I promise to release him
And make a graphite replica...
If my wife says it’s okay.
Thank you for the Rapalas.
Amen.

Has anyone tried a small topwater minnow type of lure?  I'm thinking of trying that this spring in the post-spawn type of period while the fish are still in the shallows.

have had good luck with small spinner bait with a orange gulp minnow attached....also putting  a maribu jig on back of anytype of floating repala, husky jerk...also trolling mini cranks on bottom bouncer......love trying unique set-ups, I've caught some brewser slabs on wierd ( or original ) methods.......Dave
fish may come and fish may go....but the art of fishing is what I know.........dave

Been hammering them the last few days on 1 1/2" tube jigs under a pencil bobber.

Scott,
When I use to live in central Maine, we fished Sebasticook(Newport) and also Unity Pond using jigs. We never tipped the jig with anything. All we did was throw out count down to the desired depth and do the old reel and pump method.

billditrite and JohnPorter - we frequently use a piece of crawler to tip with (easier to find than other small baits), but the last open water crappie trip I made last fall I outfished 2 guys who were tipping with my untipped tube jig.

Our season opened last Sunday...it looks like we'll be headed to my favourite crappie lake tomorrow...looking forward to it.
