1/4 inch mesh screen for minnow traps ????

Anyone in the Casper.....Gillette area have a line on a supplier that has 1/4 inch galvanised screen   There are several designs on Youtube....I am not aware of a supply house.  Anyone have a FORSURE supplier ??

Gee minnow traps use 1/4 inch mesh and are in my opinion the best out there.

Go to almost any hardware store or home improvement center and ask for 1/4 inch mesh hardware cloth.

I have a couple of the cylinder traps but am wanting to make my own....MUCH LARGER traps.... I am headed into Casper today & will try some of their Hardware stores..maybe try the farm & ranch store.... so far nothing found in the Gillette Area.

I am surprised that you cannot find it in Gillette. 1/4" hardware cloth used to be pretty common in most hardware stores and in rolls up to 50 or even 100'.

You might want to check the regulations out, they do have size restrictions on minnow traps.

1 foot square by 3 feet long   Just as per regulations if I remember.



Cut wire out just enough that a funnel cut from LARGE DIET COKE plastic bottle would squeeze in. Small opening no bigger than 1 inch.
On the next one or maybe Even this one I will make a funnel out of screen starting 12 inch by 12 inch and forcing it down to 1 inch..makes it easier for the minnows to be funneled into the bait.


in the middle is a BAIT cylinder..keeps the bait in the middle of the trap.



Another view....it has moss on it..pulled about 5 or 6 dozen with this trap yesterday plus a Salamander and a few roach type water bugs..

Lightning! I like the idea using the bottle necks. So simple and a better formed shape rather than trying to make them out of the mesh. But you say the longer mesh funnel works better eh!

i BELIEVE that a BIGGER funnel will get more bait.  They have to search pretty hard to find a 2 or 2 1/2 inch opening that funnels into the trap... I have to think a bigger opening on the outer side of the trap would guide more minnows into the trap.  I think a guy is pretty lucky to have them find such a small entrance.
