What kind of line for Salmon?
« on: May 06, 2012, 12:26 PM »
Hey guys,
Just picked up a couple of new rods and reels and am looking to find out what type of line I should pick up for salmon fishing. I have been using a mono line .....20lb Maxima Ultragreen on the downriggers. But I am looking at running deeper diver, dipsy's on my new set-ups.

What do you guys use?

Rick,

For your divers run braid.....I use 30lbs Power Pro. I'll assume your running line counter reels. Make sure you use good quality swivels..I use the Berkly cross locks.
On Lake Ontario they have a real issue with the spiny water fleas....pain in the *** so we use a line called flea flicker, the line isn't round so the fleas can't stick to it...it's egg shaped. I run 20 lbs at lady "O " and use it in Georgian Bay as well. I've land 30lbs fish with 20 lbs line off the riggers lots of times. Should be good for ya.....love your hut, maybe one day.

Any questions just ask, be glad to help a fellow angler.

If it helps I could do a couple set ups and take some pics and post...there are a few goofy tricks.

Scoop out.
