I love fishing the canal, we fish it a ton. This year it is lower in Western NY than I have seen it in a long time. It's crazy!

Little low here but not bad compared to the great lakes. Caught less perch but bigger size than normal. Walleye were all small, more tiny pike than ever before and not one crappie yet. Still early. Can't wait to hit the catfish or walleye this summer. This year I'm going to spend a day trying to get a musky out of there. I've lost a few at the boat on non musky gear so hopefully I get 1 this year.

Pike were stacked up at the lock this morning. Schools of shad and small perch were huge. Every now and again I could watch the pike attack. Pretty cool.
Hope they start filling it soon. Doubt it will be in the next 4 weeks though.

Had a fun morning on he canal. Crappies, bluegills, rock bass, perch and a few bullhead.. stopped by palmyra but the guys were working on the gates opening and closing them and letting water in and out. Something must have been wrong with one of the gates. When they closed it it made some thunderous banging noises.
They had the water stirred up like chocolate milk.

It looks like they are finally starting to fill the canal near Fairport. Amazing that it was that low and nearly dry is some places.

I think they did some big repairs to the pittsford lock and that’s why it was so low. They’re also working on the bridge going into pittsford, maybe that had something to do with it. No changes in my sections as yet. In fact, Macedon to palmyra has gone down a couple of feet.

While making my monthly run to my favorite Amish meat market for my cholesterol supply I drove over the canal in Medina. Hardly any water in it.

It’s up from the rain near me, but the gates are still open. Don’t know when they fill the western sections. Our sections are filled from the Genesee River....mostly.
