Title: Answering my own post... Maxi;Stone;Bass...
Post by: LundProv on Dec 26, 2019, 08:13 PM
Had the entire day FREE today... No office or babysitting or honeydo...  Hooked up the 16' Lund and hit lake Michigan just north of Portage.  Fished from 9:30 till about noon and caught and released several coho's and browns...  The lakefront is on fire as I had a friend fishing/jigging lakers out front and clobbering them and another fishing perch to the rest limiting out with nice perch.  Picked it up at noon and headed to Max to fish some memories.  Drove through LaPorte and saw that Stone is wide open and Pine has thin ice blown to the north shore;  Bass was wide open with ice only in the pocket but the launch was open as was the rest of the lake that I could see.  Maxi was also open and even though I was fishing memories, the fish apparently forgot I was coming as I zero'd.  Well, a good day all in all with never hearing a phone ring and the coho/brown action on lake Michigan was remarkable.  Get out and enjoy!!!!!

Sounds like a great day and memories to keep for a life time.
Glad you got out and found success.

Sounds like a great way to spend the day.
If you don't mind, what baits and depth for the Coho's and Browns.
My boat is in storage right now but it might find its way out.

    Thanks.....Greg

December’s like this make it worth all the complaints about my Lund living in the garage year round. It’s been a fun couple weeks. Planning to try port Washington Wisconsin soon for some brownies. Happy New Year to all

Redjones -- I simply went to the mouth of the ditch and actually stayed in the basin as the ditch enters lake Michigan.  In this basin, I moved around with my Minn Kota and casted 1/4 oz jigs/twister in chartruese with various retrieve speeds and also had good luck with a double orange KO Wobbler.  Saw another boat throwing rattle traps in what looked like chrome/gray or black also doing well.  I did not troll but simply casted and had a blast.  That said, I took a 15 year old neighborhood boy out to do the same and we zeroed casting.  We trolled the last hour with orange/yellow flicker shads and also firetiger and caught 5 in the last hour of daylight randomly circling in front of the ditch.  Once you find them, you can catch them.  Get that boat out and enjoy as the weather is not gonna be great but mild for this time of the year...

Thanks for the reply,I have caught bunches of Coho in the ditch and it can be really good at times.
Just thought you might have been over by US break wall,or the port.
Its looks like the weather might be down hill from here.
