Title: needing the liquid form
Post by: kfishdoctor on Feb 16, 2015, 07:24 AM
Hope all you guys have been doing well on the frozen stuff. Got the fever bad for some spring weather to get back to it  Been stuck in my store looking at all my happy fish swimming in 80 degree water for way to long. Went through the ice years ago and figured it just aint worth it to risk it again.

I couldn't agree more. I've been out on the hard water probably 15 times this year and have done decent, but ice fishing just doesn't do it for me. I much prefer the liquid stuff.

I usually try to fish some streams and small rivers for winter smallies, but all of my honey holes are frozen over too.

Any predictions on when the lakes will thaw? I'm terrible at guessing, but like to hear other people's guesses.

Tracked me down Bob.

lol.

Yea, 6 weeks before it turns around.
But my place is on Erie in Angola.
My boat won't see that lake until May at the earliest.

This won't be a total loss I'm convinced.
The ice does a lot of scrubbing and cleansing.
Cleans up the mussels, and shorelines.
It also allows the eyes to spawn without any pressure.

Mother Nature Bob.
She's a real b***h, but she's just doing her job.

ice on most lakes is 15 to 16 inches thick, at least 3 to 4 weeks unless we get tons of rain

I enjoy the ice very much but also like the boating opportunities which are approaching. I am happy just to get out either way.

On the shore. A couple pike and coho, nothing to really brag about. Just feels good not dragging all my stuff out onto the ice anymore ya know?

I would say that the slough should be boat ready in two weeks. Usually the first fishable ice. Once it starts to go it goes fast.
