Barleydog's laker & char fishing
« on: Jul 03, 2005, 11:59 PM »
Decided to visit my favorite lake for an afternoon of fishing.  The weather was decent, and the wife gave me the green light.  Off to the fishing hole!  Tested a couple new lures and accessories with great success!  The fish were cooperating, with lots of nice fatties caught all day.  Trolling was the technique used for the fish pictured below.

Fred get's lucky after 5 minutes on the water.  Nice 8 lb. fish

14 lb. or so laker with plenty of attitude!

Another big fish. A double!  Fred's was a shacker, (He grabbed the wrong pole eh!) ;D

Freddies on a role!  Another pretty laker.

Another laker.... We managed 8 lakers over 10 lbs. one under 10.  All but one released!

"Joe Cool" taking it easy while the humans catch dinner. 8)

Now were talking!  Finally a biggen!  This ol' fish was weighed in the net at 16 lbs.  Picture taken and released.

Away with you!  I can only hope one of my boys will hook this fish in the future... maybe at 20 plus pounds eh!  Thank goodness Fred didn't get my "Plumbers crack" in the pic!

"Please human release that fish!"  Barley shakes down Fred for his fish.  We managed about 6 char all between 6 and 16 lbs.

All in a days work....  Barley takes a nap and waits for another bite.

Thanks guys...

Kodiak,    Harding Lake around 30 miles out of North Pole.  The lake get's hammered by locals.  Used to be fantastic fishing, but like anything else, pressure makes it tougher to fish by the year, but not impossible! ;D

TFB, The char are decent eating tasting quite a bit like salmon, really good smoked!  Since we catch so many salmon in a year, (sockeyes, chinook, and coho), I don't keep them for food.  If I keep a char it  tends to only be small fish around 4 lbs. or so, because they don't have any fishy taste. 8)
