New lead core, what brand?
« on: May 13, 2019, 07:27 AM »
Its getting time to replace my old Cabelas lead core.  Do you guys have a preference between sufix, magibraid, tuff-line?

OR, does anyone have any Cabelas they want to sell?

I use Tuf Line Microlead.  OK.  I found the lead poked through the sheathing in a lot of places.  No apparent loss of strength but a pain in the neck.

My son uses Suffix 832 and likes it.   He outfished us last week using it.

I’ve been using the tuffline I got at Walmart for the past two years and have been pleased with it, especially for the price. I’ve caught just as many (if not more) on the same trip as my friend using suffix.

Doesn't the dia of lead core line have a lot to do with the ability of its ability to sink with resistents  greater with larger dia.?

Thanks for the link but that stuff is all way too thick/heavy!  MG39 told me about so line years ago and I have been using it since,  unfortunately, they don't make it anymore.

If you've been happy with your Cabelas stick with it, they all have their own quirks.

They don't make it anymore.

Pretty sure it was Woodstock with their name on it, I have some of both and it's identical.

i use suffix 832 advanced lead i like it
all lead is pretty much same diameter just the sheath around it that is little different thicknesses depending on lb test and material around the lead core

Does the Suffix hold its color good? I have one reel that is so faded I can't tell the colors apart! Not sure what brand it is, pretty old.

I still have the Western Filament 12# micro lead on my set ups Chuck, its atleast 6-7 years old.  Like Jay, spots showing through they sheathing but no breaks yet.  Biggest problem is first 4-5 colors show as same color now until it gets wet it the water.

If / when I change I'll probably try the suffix 832.  Expensive but you can get a 200 yard double spool at fishusa right now for $42, western filament on amazon for $15 for 100 yards.
