Yea, there was quite the buzz about the ice package this past season

Used it.  Awesome unit.  Unreal in open water.  Realtime is a buzz word.  My vex is very much realtime too.  The benefit of the panoptix is seeing where the fish are moving and how far they are from your position.  We used one a couple of weeks ago.  Ill be adopting one for ice season if they are not catching fire still.

I’d compare it more to what you see at the drs office with an ultrasound image.

I am surprised you have not pulled the trigger yet. LOL

If my marcum dies, I will get one.

Oh boy. Here we go. Save it for ice season boys.

To the op. Panoptix is unbelievable. Pricey, but worth it if you have the coin. It is nice knowing which direction the fish are coming from. More of a 3 dimensional interaction.

I was just thinking, if you point it back while your trolling, you can see how they react to your offering and help decide if you should be changing something up or if your getting any attention at all.

You would think you could set it to a certain range, say 50’ back, and set you’re presentations at 40’-45’, and get a pretty good idea right?  I had not thought of that.

I want to see some video of how it behaves over deeper water. That’s the one thing I have not seen online in the other videos.

Wiggles it was awesome in deeper water on the ice!

That does get very interesting footage, but do you get to see that transmitted live? However, if it works like I’m thinking, not only will you be able to see multiple lines at once with the panoptix, it won’t be affected by water clarity or lighting conditions. it may limit how far back/deep your running your lines to keep them on the screen.

Found some videos

Grrrr... if I made money fishing/guiding I would see this as an investment worth making, but for now, way to rich for my blood.

Not Panoptix.
That's been around for a while.

Panoptix LiveScope.

This is brand new.
Only out a week or two.
very little info on the web about it yet.

I feel it brings more excitement. My favorite part of ice fishing is jigging and seeing the interaction on the graph. During open water while fishing from a boat, I find it very difficult to maintain a stationary position to do the same with the sonar over deeper water. I don’t have a fancy motor with spot lock, and anchoring in over 20 FOW has too much drift when there’s any wind. If I had the money to throw at this system, it would bring my favorite “video game” to a whole new level and used year round.

I deferred on the fancy motor with spot lock for a few seasons.  Now ill own one for life.  Once you are locked on a lake like champlain using flashers to jig lakers while its 80 out is pretty much unbeatable in my book.

....then if you are really addicted like I became you run enough amp hours in your boat to power a small city.  I think I have 400lbs of batteries but so many smaller lakes I never need the main! (Which is sucking wind right now)

I'm looking at a new boat in the next year or 2.

It will have serious AH

Like 4 of these bad boys -

I won't need the kicker.

Mac thats a great link thanks for sharing.  That pricing is great!  Now all we both need is the panoptics 'ducer for the bow mount and man what a combo.

Begs the question...whos going to build a tesla like high performance electric boat.

Yea, 2 of those bad boys instead of 4 smaller ones.
But is there room for them in the boat.
I would make room.
And then some room for 2 more.

lol
Title: Re: Real time fish finder?

And don't forget charge time.

Quicker to charge 4 smaller batteries with a 4 bank charger, than 2 larger ones with a 2 bank charger.

Do your homework.

I'm with you 100%  2 34's up front and 2 29's in back to crank.  The 34's only run the troller.  Had to learn about adding a 60amp breaker...was roasting the minnkota barrel plug.

Even quicker to charge the 4 with 2 2 bank chargers!  I rock 2 big pro mariners.

Locating  fish is just one aspect of fishing , you still need the right bait and the ability to apply the right presentation
I say if you can afford it and have the want go for it

I don't mean to hijack your thread but since you bring up the topic I'd like to ask a question.  I'm giving some serious consideration to buying the Humminbird PiranhaMAX 4 DI fish finder for my row boat and am wondering if anyone has or used one of them.  It looks pretty nice and the price isn't too bad, $146.  I'm looking to stick to my budget and am looking for reviews on this particular model.  Here's a link to it:

Bumping this back up. I have a feeling that once the ice package comes out for the live scope, I’m going to be pulling the trigger... this video did it for me. Not only is it a clearer image than the other panoptix units, it can see fish in the weeds! Plus about time I got something with gps besides my phone and app.

With the boat I have and how often I fish in someone else’s boat, I’ll be using a bracket to use the ice fishing “stick” during open water. Probably the same mount I have for my humminbird fishin buddy, since it too is a transducer on a stick.

Thats quite a generalization about lakes suffering with that tech.  Not everyone is lining up to drop 1200 bucks for the unit...I am getting on board this ice season.

Its a talking point but again its a generlization.  Might as well say with nukes we will have nuclear war...thankfully things dont usually have such a clear cut progression.

I know more guys that fish with a worm and a bobber and have for 40 years than guys that stay on the bleeding edge of the technology just out of ritual.  I will tell you first hand...tech only goes so far if you dont have the basics down and I say this because it takes a bit of learning to leverage the panoptix.

A good example is that affluent friend with an amazing boat...great equipment, but struggles to harvest a single fish.  Those guys quit in 2 hours... :)

Just remember the old saying 90% of the fish are caught by the 10% of the fishermen ,
Well I’m in that category of not being all up to date on all the new tech , I’m still pretty old school  🎣 , but I’m pretty good at navigating the web for sales 🤪

That’s true , graphs don’t catch fish   lmao , I’ll go back and place in the missing words , but I thought everyone had heard that phrase , my bad 🤗

Milling this over and over in my head. Should I just get the ps22 so I can use it some this current season and have it ready for the ice... or wait to spend even more on the LiveScope ice package when it’s available and hope I can get one while it’s in stock. Yes the details and sensitivity looks amazing with the livescope... and little to zero interpretation of what is on the screen. L  I keep telling myself save the extra money and just learn to read the signal just like I do with my standard sonar, but seeing the difference makes it seem well worth it but then I have to wait...
Screenshots of the video I’ve been watching over and over lol.

Really not hard to decide what I want, but do I need or have patience to wait for the extra details...

So I got kinda silly and ordered the ice bundle that is already available. It is arriving today. Just need to rig a mount for the ice swivel stick for open water use. I’m thinking a pool noodle and the mount from my HB fishin buddy will work nicely.

I think this will work nicely. Going to try and give it a test run in my friends boat tomorrow. Though based on someone’s suggestion on ice shanty, I’m prob going to use a sturdier piece of pvc for use in a moving boat.

Nice.  I need to get with that too.  We used the panoptix the other day to slay lakers jigging in open water.  Where'd you buy from?
Title: Re: Real time fish finder?
Post by: bigredfishing on Aug 14, 2018, 08:13 PM
Yeah, I used the ice bracket, and screwed it into the plastic console of the boat so it just overhang enough for the shaft to hang vertically. I also exchanged the top curved piece for a pool noodle, so that whenever we moved, instead of unscrewing that piece, I could just pull the pool noodle off, retrieve the ducer and shaft and move on.  The modular shaft as it comes with the ice kit, has a fair bit of flex with actually seems to help stabilize the ducer when the chop gets steep...and I've use mine in 2.5'+ chop with no problems.

I ordered mine through dicks online. I have their rewards card, so I figured since they have it in stock, I might as well get some credit to use towards some gear later.

I need to keep mine portable, as I often fish from someone else’s boat lol. But thank for your thoughts on the modular shaft, I thought the flex might cause it to break and was going to go with the suggested schedule 80  pvc.

Oh, I’ve had mine out twice now. It’s great being able to video game fish without being limited to vertical. So far it’s been very interesting to see what’s going on ahead and around the boat, and how far fish dive as the boat passes over them and show up on standard sonar. The traditional sonar showed baitballs and the fish chasing them at 15-20’ down. on the forward view, I could see the bait started at 9-12 feet down, and dove down as the boat approached and passed over them. As a bonus, I watching a loon as it dove down, and watched it swim through the bait ball on the screen.
