Here is an interesting factoid that I heard from Cornell. More shad die when it gets cold and the lake doesn't freeze. The water temp actually gets colder because it can mix with the cold air. Hence killing more shad.

Ahhhh...............violating the laws of physics again?
How can water get colder than 32F without freezing?

Lol it doesn't.

Wind and waves mix the top layer of cold water and it goes deeper into the water column hence cooling more water than when it is capped with ice.

Has the perch bite been good for guys trying for them instead?  I'm thinking of trying that out sunday morning instead for a few hours if my jigging arm isn't feeling better by then.  It's been a month now and I am almost grateful that I haven't hooked anything with size or I might lose my rod right out of my hand.

That is interesting Reeleyz, I knew why the water wouldn't freeze from the wind and waves; but didn't realize that more shad would die off from colder deeper water...without it freezing. Lmao...It is true, that you can learn something new everyday...as long as you hang with the right people. ;D

Nice doe Jake. It seems like it takes you about 2 hours to shoot a deer every year?

Great mess of fish chief.

How deep was the water that you "caught" the doe in?  I see you landed her in shallow water....!!!   :thumbup_smilie: :rotflol:
