I have seen guys in canoes 2+ miles out on Erie.
But it was glass calm.
Me?  Nope - I wouldn't do it.
Back in the late 70's and early 80's I used to fish Lake Ontario out of Olcott for T&S in a 16' Sylvan bowrider.
We went out in some serious waves.
Sometimes we didn't belong out there.
But we learned from it.
We were lucky in some instances, I guess.
All boats have limits.
Even huge freighters.
The large ships sail around storms and hurricanes or take shelter when they can.
Even the Eddy Fitz and the Titanic sunk.
Be careful and stay within your safety zone.

I have a small Pelican Bass Raider boat with a trolling motor. Is that enough boat for Oneida? Thanks.

No!
If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Sure it’s enough boat on great days and within your comfort level. Stay in a bay , cruise the shore etc.. wouldn’t haul out to the channel but pick a great day

No it is on the North side of the canal. If you are on route 49 then turn south on Higginsville Road in Vienna. Go past Fish Creek landing through the 4 way stop and then veer right on to Cove road and take it to the end where the old bridge is closed. The launch is there on the left.

It is a nice facility.

I usually use Marion or Godfrey coming in from 13/31 rotary, depending on wind. But this adds another great option! Free I hope...?

It is free. I think the layout is kind of over complicated and definitley elaborate. The lanes that go from the road to the parking lots aren't wide enough and trailers will be driving on the grass a lot. The launch and docks look great. Along with a nice deck for people to use and a spot to launch kayaks seperate from the boat launch.

So in your opinion how was the launch and parking
So I took a ride today. No boat , just checking things. They could use a sign on Higginsville rd. Maybe it's coming. At first glance, it's a beautiful facility. For those who regularly fish the east end it's a blessing. The launch is great with real nice docks. Thank you to the parks dept. or whoever developed it. Really nice and let's not think that I don't appreciate it.
However, who was the engineer who designed the parking and did he do it on a Monday?  With that said, we all know that not every boater is an expert at putting their trailer in and out of where they want it. You really have to see it to appreciate any description. It is very tight. I would not want to come back into the launch some evening and find my fenders crumpled and my tail lights destroyed or my truck has been damaged by one who is just a little challenged at navigating in close quarters. And there will be plenty of this happening. I would stay away from this place on the weekend.
There is also an issue with getting into and out of the parking area itself. They have new soil around the paved parts which is freshly seeded, and it is already taking a beating. Just a rip roaring poor design. So, my opinion ?   I'll give it a 6 out of 10, only because I like the launch and it is all brand new pavement with no potholes.. I may use this on some rainy workday when traffic will be light, but most likely will continue up to the south shore launch or Godfreys. I am sorry if I have offended any one, but this is just the way I see it by a guy who has a zillion miles towing a trailer and has been to many a launch.
Oh ya, most people won't even find the tye down area, and will just be parking anywhere.
